Dragon cave / lair

Popular lore says dragons prefer to rest in caves deep underground. Where do our dragons in Skyrim rest? And wouldn't that make for some cool quests? So, I'm thinking a worldspace about 1/2 that of Blackreach with an outside entrance facing the sea. Part of a broader idea of a quest idea revolving around saving dragons from destruction.

Hoping this topic catches someone's attention and sparks a discussion. Anyone?

I have a vague recollection of this question.  I think in this world, (Nirn?), dragons prefer to perch in high places.  Some of them, for whatever reason, like to perch on Word Walls.  Maybe they're staking out the word wall, waiting for some guy to show up to learn a dragon word....

Thanks for the input, and it's here I'll admit to being influenced by the subterranean liars found in the George RR Martin Game of Thrones universe. But... we also have Vulthuryol, who lives in Blackreach.

After season two of House of the Dragon ended I began imagining Skyrim quests involving sneaking around in lairs of slumbering dragons. 😏

Interesting idea... Asian style dragons might work, (very large snakes with short wings) but afaik there are no Asian style dragons in skyrim, so you'd need to model them and create "snakey" animations, as well as developing and adding whatever AI is necessary to navigate in cave tunnels leading to their lairs (that is, in an asian dragony way).  Sounds like a big project.

Vulthuryol never made sense to me.  How did it get in that deep cave?  There are no tunnels that lead to it.  No big openings for it to take advantage of.  Also, the space is very small and confining (for a fast flying, wide ranging dragon).  Not enough space for that dragon to fly and roam about.

Durnehviir makes more sense.  He was tricked and bound to a pact to guard a vampire in the Soul Cairn.  The Soul Cairn is huge!  Lot's of flying space.  However, over time, he ended up becoming undead.  As a result, he could no longer live among the living in Tamriel.  So, he's stuck in the Soul Cairn for eternity.

And where did he hangout?  Perched over a word wall in the Soul Cairn, of all places!

Yes. You have made that point nicely. On the other hand, modders have given us more dragons, larger dragons, dragons that just circle overhead at high altitude and we even have GoT dragons roaming Skyrim now. And we have dragon riding capabilities far beyond vanilla. I'm just thinking beyond the box. A dragon lair, in a worldspace 1/3 of Blackreach with a cliffside entrance/exit. A concept inspired by the dragon pits in the volcanic tunnels under Dragonstone from George R.R. Martin's House of the Dragon/Fire and Blood. Something that might even inspire some related quests.

Thanks again for your input. All discussion on the topic is appreciated. 🔥👍

That's an interesting thought. After all, we do have the Akaviri, the concept of which are thought to have been inspired by Chinese culture. 🤔🐉
