Installing Modtek removes my other mods (Battletech)

I have several mods installed through Vortex that work fine.  I found some more mods but they required Modtek.  I installed Modtek and it showed up on the main screen to confirm it was installed properly.  When I looked at the in game mods list it now only listed Modtek as being installed and active.  All of the previously working mods had disappeared from the list.  I exited the game and manually deleted the Modtek files from the relevant folder and did nothing else.  When I relaunched the game (through Vortex as usual) all the mods had reappeared and worked fine.  How am I supposed to use mods that require Modtek when the mere installation of Modtek seems to block any other mods
