How do I change the damage of a weapon with xEdit?

I tried to change the damage the 44 magnum does in FO4Edit, but when I double-click on the area to edit, this pops up instead.

Spoiler

FO4Edit4.1.5f9_19_202411_02_54PM.thumb.png.36cddff197abbad1233f36e550eee7f6.png

I click on it, but I can't do anything with it. I try to type, but nothing happens. I can't type anything, though I can highlight the number. What do I do? Do I have to change something else?

Cant just outright edit the default game values. Have to create a mod that applies an edit once the game is running.

Right mouse click over the entry in the left hand pane (or the very top of the right hand pane where it says [00] Fallout4.esm]) and select "Copy as override into...". Choose file type and name it then you can edit the weapon.
xEdit is a really awesome + powerful tool, but kinda complicated, could be worth checking out some videos. Kinggrath put out a series that pretty helpful, definitely wish it was around when I started modding lol.

1).   You cannot edit the Fallout4.ESM.    xEdit (aka FO4Edit in this case) simply won't allow it.    That is for your own protection and it's by design.

2).   Find the record you want to edit, right click on it and select "Copy as Override Into".

What this does is create a copy of that record that you can edit.   Save it to a file name - xEdit will create that file when you are done.

----

Ex.  I want to edit the .44?    Do the above, I save as 44RevolverEdits (xEdit will add the extension).

Then in that mod you just created (you will see it as bold in your list), you can edit it to your hearts content - save when you are done.

Load it up in your mod manager - and it will replace the default values with the ones you edited.

I got it working now, but how do I change the accuracy of a weapon?

Depends on the weapon.

For a shotgun - it's all about spread.

For a pistol/rifle - it's all about sight alignment.

In other words you can have mis-aligned sights on a shotgun and still never notice it if you are constantly mowing them down.

Probably wouldn't really notice it until you shot a Slug at distance - and hit the tractor when you were really aiming at the Red Barn.   😄

Lol, I just noticed your Favorite Game tag.

That literally is the last COD version I ever played.    Was never into the whole Modern Warfare mess - I lived that.

Online play is always Online play - but I must say my best experiences in Online play were with COD - WaW.

-----

Seems the player base was more interested in working together than cutting each others throats - at least while I played it.

What stats do I need to change to make the 44 magnum more accurate?

Switch to a .454 Casull?   😄

Seriously though, are you using Irons or a Scope?

There is a mod that will let you find the adjustments you need to make in game when using a sight/scope.

In-Game Sight Alignment Tool - Papyrus Edition.

Not sure it works with Irons though - never really needed to use it - though I have it.

----

TBH, I never bothered with the .44 in Revolver form.   I just got a Winchester 1892 in .44 when I needed to hunt something.

Would have loved if they'd have just left in a .357 Revolver.

To that end I use the F4NV Single Action Army - with Revolver Fanning added in.

I don't want a mod. Also, I hate using scopes on pistols. That's why I would like to use xEdit to change the stats. The problem is that I don't know what to change, and guides online aren't helpful. Is there a way to change the accuracy using xEdit?

Think these are the settings you're looking for -

Quote

‡Total combo of weapon parts value = 0.000 for perfect accuracy, 1.000 for no accuracy‡

"AimModelConeIronSightsMultiplier" - Max spread for weapon fire while aiming.

"AimModelMinConeDegrees" - Min spread of a weapon during hip-fire.

"AimModelMaxConeDegrees" - Max spread of a weapon.

"AimModelShotsForRunaway" - Rounds fired in a row before recoil auto jumps to max spread.

If I remember right - The game itself modifies a weapons accuracy by the weapons object mods (OMOD), that have "Property Modifiers" attached to carry out a "MUL+ADD" operation targeting these settings. The CK sadly is the best to add new "Property Modifiers" to OMOD's, but with them you could tweak all the settings you need.
