ungwe
Following the installation of a new NVME hard drive, and therefore a completely new installation of Windows 10, Vortex doesn't detect any games. How should I proceed?
showler
Go into Steam/GoG Galaxy/EGS/whatever store and "install" the games back to the same locations where they are currently installed. The store app should detect the existing files, skip downloading them again and just verify the files. This will put back the info in Windows that the games exist. If you didn't take proper steps to preserve your mod information before doing this then you'll need to reinstall all your mods though.
ungwe
The problem is... I'm starting from a fresh installation. The games have just been installed via Steam, and Ubisoft as well. From this new installation on a freshly installed drive, Vortex can't find them. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall them?
showler
No, if they were installed after you reinstalled Windows that's not the problem. Have you run the games vanilla before trying to manage them in Vortex? Sometimes that's needed to create some base files for Vortex to detect. Otherwise, you should be able to simply point Vortex to the correct location. Hitting "manage" on a game Vortex can't find should bring up a dialog with an option to manually select the correct location.
ungwe
I hadn't launched the games, indeed. But after your message, I did. It doesn't change anything. Specifying the game's directory path in the settings also doesn't help. I feel like the "full scan" doesn't actually scan anything, while the "quick scan" at least gives me the message that no new games were found. I'm still stuck
showler
What version of Vortex are you using? There hasn't been a "scan" option for ages.
Solution ungwe Posted Tuesday at 08:56 PM Author Solution Share Posted Tuesday at 08:56 PM Ah yes! Thank you! It was just that, the version! I was downloading it from the Nexus homepage instead of from the community mods section! After installing the new version, everything seems to be working now! Thank you! The simplest solution is sometimes the one that eludes us the most! I’m an old Nexus user, and playing without mods is no longer an option for me! Thanks again! showler
Could you please be specific about where you were downloading it from? I suspect if there's a way to unintentionally get an old version of Vortex from Nexus Mods they'd probably like to close that hole.
