Constant Crashes Upon Entering Underdark - modded game

Hi,

I started experiencing crashes as soon as I entered the Underdark. Prior to this, the game was running smoothly without any crashes or major bugs. I have modded the game, with just under 300 mods installed, and as far as I can tell, all of them are up to date.

It's likely that one of the mods is causing the issue, considering the sheer number I have installed. However, diagnosing which mod is the culprit has proven difficult. I initially thought equipment mods might be the cause, so I unequiped all equipment so my Tav's naked and put all my gear into the tutorial chest to see if that would bypass the problem.

This seemed to work for a while, but as soon as I started saving the game and slowly re-equipping items to identify the problematic mod, the crashes started happening again. Now, even an earlier save where my character was naked is no longer working.

Sometimes, the game loads successfully, but I can't move my character without the game crashing within a short period, as if a hidden timer triggers the crash as soon as I start exploring.

I've attached screenshots of my mod list and modsettings. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would really appreciate the help.

It's impossible to diagnose the problem on my own, and exploring the Underdark without any gear doesn't seem like a viable solution 😂

Thanks!

I've been experiencing something very similar with far fewer mods as you can see from my thread:

While I had maybe 2-3 crashes prior to the Underdark, upon entering the Underdark the crashes began happening much more often and typically within minutes of loading a save. Feel free to take a look at my mods to see if you see any commonalities. Hopefully we get this figured out soon, would rather not have to start the game over >.<

Thanks man for replying. I saw your topic, and I thought  that you fix this by verifying game??

You got much less mods then I and by looking at list we have in common mods that number is from 1-8, and I have more mage gear main version.

Hm maybe is somethinh in this mods… i dont know.

As I said, striping my Tav naked and remove companions and remove and put all equipment in tutorial chest helped me go through underdark. Maybe you could try that, but is very unimmersive to play whole underdar like that

@LognaVino

From the screen shots, it looks like you use laughing leaders BG3 mod manager & not vortex, correct?

If so, then these 2 mods need to be moved to the folder located here & not the mods folder in the documents area.

              <attribute id="Folder" type="LSString" value="Player and NPC - Old Shaders (Textures)" />
              <attribute id="Folder" type="LSString" value="Companions - Old Shaders (Textures)" />

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data

Only the shader portion needs to go there, the .Pak file can remain in the mods folder in documents.

I also see lots of issues with the load order. I have included 2 tutorials & a copy of my load order for comparision. (Please don't judge me for the NSFW stuff. LOL.)

I am placing this here in case anyone else has these issues, but since you DM'd me, I will also send it to you directly. 🙂

Thank you so much for quick and helpful reply.

Yes, I am using BG3 mod manager, and I will use your modlist to get mine in order. And don't worry about NSFW stuff 😄

Regarding Shaders, I am not sure that I understand completely, so I will just write what I think that you told me to do 😄

I got Player and NPC - Old Shaders & Player and NPC - Old Shaders (Textures). Also Companions - Old Shaders & Companions - Old Shaders (Textures). All 4 mods are .Pak and all mods now are in mods folder C:\Users\MYNAME\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods  because I imported them in BG3 mod manager.

So, what you are suggested is to move Player and NPC - Old Shaders (Textures) & Companions - Old Shaders (Textures) to a folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\MODS

Since this two mods are .Pak, do I need to extract both mods from .Pak, and then copy and paste them to Mods folder or? I found on the mod page loose versions of these two mods, but path for pasting that files are Generated\Public\Shared &SharedDev. So Iam not sure what i need to do.

Sorry for this, but I am not sure that I understand, and don't want to ruin game more.

UPDATE before I made these steps that you wrote: I manage to walk through Underdark alone and naked 😄  Finished part in Grymforge, and now I am in act 2, fully fully clothed and no crash. I dont know what was the oproblem, but definatlky something isn't compatible with Underdark. Do you think that this shaders maybe a culprit?

Oh, if you have the .pak version of the shaders, then yes, they would go into the mod folder in the documents area. My apologies, I forgot that there was a Pak version of that now. I usually use the loose versions which go into the data files.

As for your naked character, I am not sure what is causing that. I don't think that it is a texture issue because that would affect your actual character & not the clothes.

It may be a conflict with one of the mods or maybe an outdated one.
