Shadowrunnwer
I noticed some things with the SH2 remake that reduce my enjoyment of the game greatly. So i thought i'd post some of my issues and maybe someone will like one of those ideas. 1 - Fog distance to 0: James seems to have a force bubble around him that pushes the fog away from him. Basically removing that bubble and have him surrounded by fog would increase immersion. 2 - removing X-button indicators while increasing interaction area: OG Silent Hill did not need the X prompt to interact with items. I think they are visible enough, even in the remake. And a prompt just kills the immersion. However even with the prompt, getting into the right position is quite finicky, so slightly increasing the area of interactiion would help to pick up items/open drawers. 3 - Fewer monsters, with less aggressive AI: Honestly after the second or third mannequin where you do the hit/dodge dance it stops being scary and is just annoying/frustrating. SH1 and 3 were about action. 2 is about melancholy and loneliness. And having monsters always storm you, kills any notion of solitude. So reduction of monsters and having the AI lose interest faster and take longer to react would bring the game closer to it's original. 4 - Eddy rework: People keep arguing that they want Angela and Maria closer to the original. Yet everyone keeps ignoring Eddy who got the worst treatment IMO. He was always a plus sized man but in the remake he looks like the caricature of one. Looks more like Slimer from Ghostbusters with human skin color, rather than an overweight guy. Hope those ideas make sense. Edit: 5 - Removing Cloth from puzzles. I know the designer intended it to be like a wrapped christmas present for the players, trying to get them excited for a new "toy" to play with. But that misses the point entirely. That mechanic belongs in a Zelda game, not Silent Hill. The only thing missing is the "DA DA DA DAAAAAA!" jingle when James unveils the puzzle. It has to much fanfare, as is. smellsnoice
Number two can be disabled completely in the settings under gameplay tab at the bottom, I do believe, and I agree with the rest, and if anyone bothers looking into these, hear this. We NEED a script overhaul of the dialogue and voice acting to be replaced with the originals, bloober unnecessarily changing line deliveries with awful uninspired maria voice actor and 'silent' james, just isnt cutting it, bash on the original all you want by saying its too cheesy, it had more soul. Thanks for reading.
Shadowrunnwer
I don't think seamlessly changing voice actors is possible. And while i agree, that the slightly off center performance of the original cast will always be my prefered voices, i don't mind the remake voices to much. If i want entirely OG i just play SH2 enhanced. I stuck with my mod ideas to what i believe to be achievable, with my pretty much zero knowledge on the topic. I would have wished for the classic dynamic camera as well, but i don't think changing that could be achieved easily with a mod. As for my second idea. I am aware that there is an option to turn off the HUD, but that doesn't really work without an increased area of interaction. As it is a very finnicky mechanic people would just press the interact button near a shelf, don't get a reaction and move on thinking there was nothing to interact with. At least with the shelves and drawers. So it's a situation similar to turning the health indicator off. It's possible ingame but the mod that remains the red cross in the corner is just a bit better than vanilla.
smellsnoice
Yea idk, i havent had issues, just spam e like crazy when i see james head move towards something, so idk, skill issue maybe? Other than that, the voice acting thing is entirely possible, just going to take time to get done, unreal engine has a built in ai voice recognition software that lines audio up with whats being said by inputting the voice lines and tweaking the values to the correct emotion you want for the line being spoke. Realistically within the realm of possibility, just a matter of meticulously swapping out every line and replacing it. While I respect that you don't mind the dogwater execution of the voice acting and taking away of lines that lessen each character and making the overall story less impactful, I'm going to disagree and stick with my guns here, it's a travesty what was done and I will accept no further debate on it, except god bless whoever gets it done. Sorry if I offend, but this is a touchy game just to throw to the wayside as, eh, whatevs lol teehee. I and many others I have discussed this with feel the same way, sorry the game doesn't mean as much to you, but these petty little mods literally mean nothing compared to getting this done as a priority, peace, have a good rest of your day. Nicholascata001
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!! Somebody, anybody, please do a Monica Horgan A.I. voice mod for Maria and Mary. Guy Cihi for James would be nice too. If Wesker and Ada in Resident Evil 4 Remake could be returned to their original voices with A.I., then I see NO reason why it can't be done for Maria and James in Silent Hill 2. I am DYING for this!
