peiman
I was thinking about challenge runs when the idea hit me, what if we could add disabilities for characters? This would add a lot of roleplay opportunities and flavour to each playthrough. Imagine, a character who has lost an arm would not be able to use off hand weapons, two handers, or shields. A character who has become blind will always have the debuff applied to them. A character who has lost a foot would have to use a peg leg and sacrifice moving and jumping distance plus a higher chance to fall prone when on difficult terrain. Just in three examples, we have things that could change and characterize entire playthroughs, and you can even run further with the idea by adding quests or crafting recipes for specific prosthetics, which would lower debuffs but not completely mitigate them. For example, the character without an arm would now be able to mount a shield or an offhand blade, but still suffer a dex penalty. Maybe an Ironhand or Gondian schematic/prosthetic would have no debuffs at all because they are so advanced with tech. There is lore precedent, for example, Volo's attempt in extracting the parasite leaves Tav with one of their original eyes. As well, if a character starts the game with disabilities, if they die and are then resurrected, they are brought back as the person that died, not an earlier version of them who did not lose an arm or a leg etc. The easier way to implement this would be character creation, but a much more meaningful way would be to also add a feature where characters that go down have a small chance to suffer a major blow, and walk away with a disability. You can even be super specific with it. If a critical hit with slashing damage knocks a character down they have a chance to lose an arm or a leg etc. I'm excited to see what other people think/think if this mod idea is feasible.
