orvynn
Running Vortex version 1.13.2 on Windows 10. The problem I'm having was present before I updated it and still persists after. I have a decent rig (good enough to run most modern games at at least medium graphics settings), so I'm reasonably certain it's not a hardware issue. Here recently, I received an error message when trying to update some mods (for Fallout 4, which is also up to date if that matters), see file attached. I have my documents folder stored on an external hard drive (which is stable and connected 24/7) but I've modded my games using Vortex before when this was the case and hadn't run into any issues like this before. I made sure the mod staging folder is set to the same drive the game is installed on but even after correcting that problem I've still got a whole host of weird issues. Every single time I try to install or update a mod, Vortex freezes completely and causes system-wide issues with my PC, such as: Complete inability to close Vortex. I tried just exiting out of the program and closing it via Task Manager, but when I have this issue, I can't even get that to open. I can still open other programs, however they refuse to load and pretty much just buffer for an eternity. The inability to type, whatsoever. When I try and click on things, it registers my left-click as a right click. I tried to look at the screenshot of the error message when my PC was in this condition and it opened the right-click menu. This only happens some of the time, though, and frankly I have no idea what to think about that. I tried to restart my PC. That also ended up in an infinite spinny wheel of death and I had to restart the PC manually. After I finally got it to shut down and booted it back up again, I entered the PIN like Windows always prompts me too and... nothing. After that it didn't take me to the home screen or anything, just a black blank page with the cursor. Upon a second manual restart, this issue resolved. I know this is caused by Vortex because I have absolutely NO issues like this with other programs or when running games (even the resource-intensive ones), and ONLY occurs after I try to install/update a mod using Vortex. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there any way I can fix this, or I am just totally and completely borked?
