DirebearCoat
I made sure that I met all of the requirements before installing "SSE Engine Fixes [SKSE64 Plugin]." I followed the install instructions. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17230?tab=description What I found out is that when I follow the Part 2 instructions, I get a weird problem. Part 2 instructions says to unzip the three files directly into the main Skyrim folder, d3dx9_42.dll, tbb.dll, and tbbmalloc.dll. Vortex seems happy and all seems well. As I start up the game, when I get to the "Load" option and I click on "Yes" (to start the save game), I get a long list of other plugins that it tells me are uninstalled, even though they are installed. It asks me if I want to install them. I click "Yes." (One time, I clicked "No," just to see what happens. The game started like usual, and when I got to using the Esc key, it quit straight to desktop like it did every time before.) The game starts, and I can do stuff with the character. I can operate keyboard commands, (E to interact with objects in the world, W-A-S-D to walk around, Caps Lock to walk or run, Tab to bring up Items, Spells, and Perks menus, and other options). However, when I hit the "Esc" key to bring up the Quest Log, and the System menu, the game instantly quits and goes to Desk Top. I found that when I removed the three files, listed above. Vortex gives me a warning that SSE Engine Fixes won't load, or won't load properly, and that I might get corrupted save files, or something along those lines. The problem is that 1) I don't know if the fixes are applied and operates without the three files, and I can just keep it like that, or if SSE Engine Fixes is just taking up space, not doing anything without those three files. At this point, I'm about to just uninstall it. However, there are over a hundred thousand endorsements, and I'm thinking it might be worth figuring out the problem and fix it. I made sure that I have the correct version of SKSE64 installed for my version of Skyrim, and that I got the correct version of SSE Engine Fixes. (If someone can show me how to print out all of the mods I have installed (enabled and disabled), I'll post up the list, if that will help to solve what the issue might be). 7531Leonidas
Just to be sure that it isn't something simple that you missed, you should list your SE version number, SKSE version number, and SSE Engine Fixes version, since plugins are being disabled after installing Engine Fixes, which itself is a symptom of an earlier version of that mod. From the Engine Fixes comments page, on how to know if it is running properly in game: Spoiler If you want to verify that Engine Fixes is running ok, open your d3dx9_42.log in your SSE game folder. It should look something like below when Engine Fixes is running properly. Don't worry about the line reading "failed to search dll plugin directory" - this just means you don't have other plugins that use the \Data\DLLPlugins directory installed. skse64 plugin preloader - d3dx9_42 exe path: X:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\SkyrimSE.exe loaded into SkyrimSE.exe or SkyrimVR.exe, proxying SkyrimSE d3dx9_42 funcs and registering preload hook success hook triggered, loading dll plugins (meh's loader) failed to search dll plugin directory DLLPlugin loader finished hook triggered, loading skse plugins found plugin "EngineFixes" for preloading attempting to load found plugins attempting to load "X:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\SKSE\Plugins\EngineFixes.dll" loaded successfully and Initialize() called loader finished
DirebearCoat
Skyrim SE ver. 1.6.1170.0 I used the automatic install by clicking on the Vortex button, and it brought up this version: "(Part 1) SSE Engine Fixes for 1.6.629 and newer..." Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE64) ver 2.2.6 From the Log (d3dx9_42.log): "skse64 plugin preloader - d3dx9_42 exe path: c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\SkyrimSE.exe loaded into SkyrimSE.exe or SkyrimVR.exe, proxying SkyrimSE d3dx9_42 funcs and registering preload hook success hook triggered, loading dll plugins (meh's loader) failed to search dll plugin directory DLLPlugin loader finished hook triggered, loading skse plugins found plugin "EngineFixes" for preloading attempting to load found plugins attempting to load "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\SKSE\Plugins\EngineFixes.dll" loaded successfully and Initialize() called loader finished"
DirebearCoat
Alright.... I noticed something... So, like I said, when I clicked on the "Vortex" button, it opened up a page with a dialog box to download "(Part 1) SSE Engine Fixes for 1.6.629..." So, I went back to look in the files tab. Too look at information about the file that would get auto downloaded and auto installed. This file is in the bottom of a list of three versions, and second in the list three files is a file called "(Part 1) SSE Engine Fixes for 1.6.1170 and newer..." (Face palm). I did a manual download, and did the drag and drop into Vortex to do a "manual install." I uninstalled version 1.6.629 and installed 1.6.1170, then I installed (Part 2), extracting the files into the folder, like it said in the instructions. Now it starts normally, without giving me a long list of mods that are uninstalled (when they are actually installed), and then I tested the "Esc" key. I got the Quests and the Save menus... Like normal. It didn't insta-quit to desktop like before. The issue is solved. [New problem cropped up. See the EDIT below for details.] Thank you, 7531Leonidas! The request you made for information about the versions of the game and of the mods that are installed, led me to finally notice where I had gone wrong. Well, one thing has become apparent to me. The Vortex automatic install button doesn't always pick the right file for your set up. Here is a copy and paste of the log: "skse64 plugin preloader - d3dx9_42 exe path: c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\SkyrimSE.exe loaded into SkyrimSE.exe or SkyrimVR.exe, proxying SkyrimSE d3dx9_42 funcs and registering preload hook success hook triggered, loading dll plugins (meh's loader) failed to search dll plugin directory DLLPlugin loader finished hook triggered, loading skse plugins found plugin "EngineFixes" for preloading attempting to load found plugins attempting to load "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\SKSE\Plugins\EngineFixes.dll" loaded successfully and Initialize() called loader finished" The log results looks identical. You couldn't tell if there were any problems from the log (that I can see). EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: I celebrated too soon. Now, my save games aren't showing up.... My save games showed the first time I logged into the game after I "fixed" the problem. However, the first time I went to save, I found all of my save games gone. Gone from the game menu. However, the game saves are all in the folder in Windows. Sigh... New problem to fix.... Edited December 14 by DirebearCoat
7531Leonidas
The save game issue may just be the game blocking saves that are not 'aligned' with the current character, since you had the problems WRT mods being disabled. Isn't there a menu setting that allows you to see all saves, no matter which character? It's been forever since I had to worry with/about that.
