January 17th my Vortex started crashing with no end... I reverted to backup I had - and after few mods it started again like a crazy loop....

I still think that OneDrive or some other sync function is causing the problem.  I have seen a lot of wonky Vortex behavior described due to cloud sync, maybe because sync is trying to 'restore' it before it can complete installation/modification?

Everyting else is working on my computer, and it is high end... (i9-14900k, 128gb ram, 2x4 tb nvme, 2x2 tb nvme - all samsung, nvidia 4070 TI, and a z790 mb win11 pro 24h2).

Something is messed up, and I cant find it - and im a computer tech....

If you are a computer tech, you should have been able to find the lines in your log with the crash reason. Took me about 60 seconds to find it.

It appears to be related to the dependency manager and some missing mod directories. Did you manually delete mod directories outside of Vortex?

Hey, if OneDrive is the problem, how do I fix it?  My Vortex is doing the same thing, just endless crashes.  It'll crash upwards of ten times every time I start it, but when I eventually get it set up to run Skyrim, the game is fine??  I can spend ages in xEdit or Wryebash, just Vortex itself is bonkers.  It also keeps thinking I told it to delete everything (I didn't!) or use a 'new file' of something that shouldn't have been changed in any way.  Sometimes it does the white screen, but mostly it just crashes to desktop within a second or two of opening.  I did click through to the 'more' and try the suggestions for white screen crashes, but that isn't the entire problem.

I reinstalled the latest C++ and .NET in case that helped, ran system restore stuff through the registry, and I'm getting really frustrated!  How would I go about seeing if OneDrive was the problem/fix it, any ideas??  Thank you!

I am still on w10, if you are on a version of w11, then do an internet search for something like 'disabling OneDrive windows 11', 'making exceptions in OneDrive windows 11'.  I never allowed OneDrive to run on my PC, so I don't know how to change anything on it.

Thank you, I'll try it!  I got a gaming computer recently after being exclusively mac-only for years and I don't know how to do anything!  I couldn't even figure out how to turn it off at first, I was like "But there's supposed to be  button in the left corner??" LOL Thanks for the prompt response, we'll see what happens!

So, update, uninstalling Onedrive did not help...much?  It seems like maybe it helped a little (Vortex is crashing a few less times when I try to open it, and sometimes it stays up long enough to turn a mod on or off) but it's still mostly crashing on startup, whenever I click on a mod, whenever I download a mod, whenever I enable/disable/remove a mod, and sometimes it just crashes in the background when I'm reading a webpage.  I found this thread and it reminded me to exclude Vortex from the firewall and virus protection, but that also doesn't seem to have helped a great deal.  The rest of the stuff in the thread doesn't seem to apply--I have the files he's asking about, and my Vortex does start occasionally, it's just frustratingly crashy, which makes it difficult to turn on patches and that sort of thing.

Any other ideas?  Are there other sync-y programs I should look for and uninstall, or anything like that?

Aso, I found my diagnostic logs, and it says errors!  But I don't know what it means!

This is the only one Vortex labels as an error, even though the others say error in the text:

  Reveal hidden contents

OH I can SORT for errors sorry about the wall of text (hey today I learned how to spoiler tag, too) here are the marked errors:

  Reveal hidden contents

Sounds like the mod "Fire And Ice Overhaul" is definitely a problem but I didn't download it until Vortex was already crashing.  (I'll remove it though.)

If anyone reads through all this, thank you so much for your time!

OneDrive has nothing to do with it - as it is NOT saving any of the files Vortex use, only whats under My Games / save game files and game log files.

Well, that is after it crashes and delete files under deployment - and with the endless crash loop, the game was unplayable after. So I had to revert to a backup and restore all game files.

I changed my motherboard now, and my disks to samsung 990 Pro - reinstalled computer, and had to update to 24H2.  So I got a clean install, added just what I needed for the game first, and the crashes still goes on and on and on and on.....

One thing Im lending to, could vortex struggle with high end speed disks? My game disk has 7.0/6,2 GB read/write speed.... My 2nd computer where vortex runs fine only has a 2gb read/write speed....
