Need help with making a 2019 Stardew mod work

So I've downloaded an NSFW Stardew mod from loverslab.com, and the author made the mod in 2019 (obviously before the 1.6 update) and it has the same requirements as a regular mod - having SMAPI and Content Patcher installed - however, when I load up the SMAPI game none of the sprites work? Alex is still his regular self and is not replaced by what the mod offers. Any tips on how to fix? I tried reverting back to an update pre-1.6, but it didn't work..
