Scavar
Forgive me if this exists already, I did a search and found nothing. Here's the gist: I screwed up Fallout 3 with too many mods too quick and no order. I figured the simplest way to fix it all would be to uninstall and reinstall it. To my surprise I got this error when trying to uninstall: An error (-5006 : 0x8000ffff) has occurred while running the setup. In doing a search I found an answer from Bethesda: Rename the Install Shield folder. I tried that, I tried removing everything from there as well(I copied it else and just removed the entire folder). All this did was make it so the uninstaller wouldn't even run. So then I got to Google. Google finds me an answer from the big MS. Basically telling me to call support or do a manual process with CatastrophicFaliure.exe, I personally find that to be an odd name but that isn't the point, the point is this file doesn't seem to exist anywhere. I'd rather not call MS since I'm pretty sure their support will not do anything to help me. So I got the bright idea, let's just delete all the files(This includes registry files) related Fallout 3 and just in case let's do it in safe mode! I did that, tried to uninstall again. Same error. So, I tried to just reinstall from the CD, and guess what? Same error! I am on a fully updated version of Windows Vista Ultimate 64, where Fallout 3 previously installed perfectly fine. I have the original DVD version of the game NOT the Steam version.I've attached a DxDiag for anyone interested. I've also uploaded a txt file of all the information in the Details portion of the Error, and a screen cap of it. If there is more information you need or think I've left out, ask away. If you have any ideas or suggestions, no matter how silly or ridiculous; I will hear them out. Thank you!
Scavar
Ok so after much fussing about my friend had an idea. He had a completely clean install of Fallout 3 on his PC and suggested we just copy that folder back over. We did that, copied it back to where Fallout 3 would be installed and the game started up fine. It's not quite a real solution to the problem, but it gave me a fresh install to start up new with. Sigh.
