MorrowWing
Motivation: Have you ever seen a single wizard in the Harry Potter movies do a standing roll? Have you ever seen it during a duel?? Definitely not. I just want a dodge move that allows me to not get hit by unblockable attacks (turning around and running is clunky and doesn't always work and feels awful because it doesn't have i-frames and enemies track you WAY harder if you don't dodge) but doesn't involve rolling around like I'm in Dark Souls. Seriously, rolling around just doesn't feel very wizard-like. And have you seen how clumsily the player lands from jumps of even medium height? There's no way they're athletic enough to do all that rolling. Main Goal: I want an animation for the dodge roll that doesn't look quite as athletic. Something where you throw yourself forward with wild abandon, as if you're jumping away from an explosion, and scramble back to your feet, sort of like the way the player gets to their feet after a large fall. In fact, you could probably commandeer those animations/functionality, since it already has built in a version for getting up to a standstill and getting up continuing to move forward. If it's possible to trigger that hard fall, I think it would be perfect for the end of the dodge. All you would have to do is something for that brief window after pressing dodge and before landing on the ground in the hard fall. Optional: While the big dodge is certainly necessary for dodging troll clubs and frog lunges, a more subtle sidestep or duck would be all you need for dueling other wizards who have unblockable spells. I don't have high hopes for something like that being possible, but if you can find a way to allow a quick little sidestep that has i-frames but keeps you on your feet and moves you way less far, that would be a dream come true. Honestly, I don't even care if I have no control over which direction I step in or anything like that, I just want something to allow me to dodge unblockable spells without doing a whole forward roll. Obviously the last-ditch throw-myself-to-the-ground maneuver would also be able to dodge these attacks but at the cost of having no time to counterattack. Maybe if you target and try to dodge, you get a sidestep, but if you're not targeting and try to dodge, you get the big dodge. Or if you dodge with no left stick input, you duck in place with i-frames. Idk, something like that. Like I said, the main focus here is replacing the dodge roll with something less athletic so I'm not too worried about the sidestep/duck being possible, though it would be awesome if it could be done.
