IMANOOB
Hi, I'm a newbie in using mods to enhance fallout 3 gameplay. Recently, i have been reading the guides on how to install mods, and have decided to follow wandik's step by step guide to install mods. However, in the course of the installation, everything was fine up until the FOOK installation. My current Fallout does not have any sort of DLC content, so i was skipping any installation related to DLC. I managed to install FOMM, FOSE, BSA, which are the pre-requisites for mod installation, and have updated my fallout version to 1.0.0.15, as well as using the fake patch. However, i encountered branching differences when i began my work. Here is the chronology of my work: First, the Unofficial Patch by quarn, i used the installer version. the version does not show any unofficial esp file in my mod manager, but when i tested it out, it worked fine. at first i installed the DLC contents, but realised my mistake, and chose to reinstall it, skipping the DLC's. As for the fake patch, i used the mod manager's Package Manager utility, and activated it from there, as well as VAT's Fix. Next, after testing out it with FOSE, nothing funny happened so far. But, come FOOK installation, everything became awry. I first tried to install CALIBR using same package manager method, and it comes with CALIBR's merchant .esp. But, when i tested it out again with FOSE, my Fallout starts to crash whenever i open it with FOSE. Unsure of what to do next, i proceeded with installation, with FOOK, at first i used the same package manager, but cancelled midway since there are 3 files which is impossible by using the tool, so i opted manual extraction. I extracted the mods to a separate folder, before copying them correctly to my Fallout directory. I also used FOOK 1.6 esp, which gives me more .esp files. I preceded to arrange them in this manner: Fallout3.esmFakePatch_v1.5.0.22c.ESMCALIBR.esmFOOK.esmCALIBRxMerchant.espVATSFixOff.espFOOK.espFOOK - Tougher Enemies.espFOOK - No Requirements for Miniguns, Gatlings, 20mm Flak.espFOOK - Strength Requirements for Miniguns, Gatlings, 20mm Flak.espFOOK - Additional Power Armor Training.espFOOK - Reduced Armor Boni.espFOOK - Test Container.espFOOK - Free Play After MQ.espFOOK - Owned!.esp Total active plugins: 15Total plugins: 15 After that, i tested them again using FOMM, launching FOSE, but it always crashed ( CTD) at the opening credits. I am stuck so far, and i could not figure out any possible solution. I would be grateful if anyone can give me directions on how to solve my current bug. Thanks in advance. mechine
I'd start by installing all of the mods manually drag an drop them also following the path down to see what it may or may not replace I don't know about the guide you're using I used Ultimate Load Order a few months ago just to learn how to install stuff clean Which it worked, then I deleted it after I got tired of it, because there was a bunch of stuff I didn't want In the past I had trouble with using the easy installer method, and so I install it all manually now. Also if you're not going to use DLC's why bother using the fake patch Also I think there are only certain versions that work with old patches FOSE for instance, you'd need the 1.0.15 version, who knows what else All the good stuff is being updated to work with 1.5 1.6 an master update I think I don't use DLC's probably won't for a long time either I do use patch 1.5 and master update from FO3edit though If you ask me I wouldn't use fake patch unless I used anything and everything that the fake patch's creator uses or put into the fake patch thread If you take into concideration that there are small mods to fix VATS and perkslike VATS at longer distance, and VATS MCE, then the tons of perks or no auto aim The really all that is left to be a reason to use 1.0.15 is so you can shoot down grenadesmid air, which is really just a chance to hit them, Chance being you might miss an get blown up.Which is silly for a tactic anyway, you see the grenade, run, jump move out of the wayYou can still VATS grenades in mid air, post 1.0.15, the only change is there is no chance to hit themWhich is silly because if you saw it you should just run anyway Fake patch is a work around, from person to person there is no telling what you really end up withfrom the rather hard to understand instructions, besides each person running different mods. So I think maybe you're opening pandora's box. I was given the choice to either use 1.0.15 plus fake patch, 1.4 fakepatched, 1.5 plus FO3 Master update I picked the 1.5 master update because it was more easy, and seemed to be where the future was going with mods.To tell the truth I never really even noticed some of the claims that fake patch made about how certain things got nurfedlike VATS or Perks, I did notice not being able to shoot grenades, but before that I was using 1.0.35 anyway and couldn't shoot at them anyway. I never really even shot at them even in 1.0 or 1.0.15 so yeah I never missed it. Also post 1.0.15 adds support for SLI/crossfire as well as fixing a few thingsThat would otherwise get on your nerves in the game world. One of the advantages of using master update, is that sometimes it allows things that would otherwise not work together to actually work, besides it being kind of the way things are going, but who knows Just concidering how 1. fake patch is a work around 1.4 1.5 1.6 2. master update is a fix for 1.5 1.6 I'd pick master update You know you could also just not do eitherJust use 1.0.15 an mods that will work with it You'll miss out on some fixes for stuff, but there is always unoffical fallout patch I can say using 1.5 plus FO3master update has been the smoothest fallout 3 has ran less crashes than 1.0.15, 1.0.35, and 1.4 by less I mean less than half, very smooth You should also read thru the sticky topics or pinnedThere's just not a lot of debate on which patch path is best for who an what
