UnknownR3aper
I have mods that change Morrigan's looks a little and changes her default equipment. There were no issues for most of my playthrough but one day she became one of two things, a floating head with floating hands, or her character model was completely gone. I have not been able to figure it out and I's tried looking at various forums but I'm unable to find a solution. I've tried disabling and enabling mods, I've tried uninstalling and installing mods, and I've tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it. I'm using vortex if that's important. If anyone has any ideas, I'll take em.
zloybelka
I've seen reports that Vortex sometimes corrupts the downloads, so you might want to check and redownload the mods you're using for her. This might be an item variation conflict (floating head sounds like it), if you've redressed her into another modded clothing item or installed another armor mod mid-playthrough. A list of installed mods is required to pinpoint any incompatibilities. First try redressing her into some vanilla robe, if it looks normal then her modded equipment (whatever she had on when this happened) certainly conflicts with something else. A sudden floating head/no head might also indicate a corrupted .utc file that you unknowingly installed with another mod pack / NPC overhaul mod (although, that's more likely to happen on a completely new playthrough rather than mid-playthrough as all equipment is backed into your save as soon as you enter a new location). Try looking through your Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override or wherever Vortex stuffs the mods for any .utc files with her name and deleting them, then start a new game or at least find a save in/before Ostagar where you haven't yet entered the Corcari Wilds. Also, a floating head instead of armor sometimes shows up on modded items, if you haven't patched your exe with the 4 GB Patch.
theskymoves
Floating heads or 'invisible' equipped items are almost always caused by either an Item Variation ID conflict - two items from mods using the same ID number from the limited pool of available IDs - or the item not having a 3d model for the gender/race combo of the character equipping the item. This is my DAO Item Variation ID conflict explainer: How to resolve Item Variation conflicts. It's impossible to even speculate what mod or mods might be at issue, absent a complete list of all that are installed. There is a Google Docs spreadsheet (linked from this page) with most of the known conflicts as of 2018, but newer mods won't be accounted for.... that's a good place to start. Vortex (at one time) had a severe bug when used to mod DAO, in that it would randomly delete all entries from the addins.xml file but for the last installed mod. Since addins.xml is the file the game references to identify what DLC and DAzip mods have bee installed, the result of that buf was that users DLC and previously installed mods all 'disappeared' from the game, making it necessary to completely reinstall. Unless that bug has been fixed, Vortex is a not a good choice for installing and managing a modded DAO install. (And even if the bug has been fixed, there are still better options.)
