Mod Proposal: Exportable Combat Log Parser for BG3

Summary:
Requesting a utility or mod that expands and exports Baldur’s Gate 3's combat log into a readable format—something that lets players analyze turn-by-turn decisions, roll outcomes, and encounter flow outside of the UI’s current limitations.

Why?

The current combat log is like an edlin window. What we need is awk.

Right now, the game gives us:

  • A short, non-exportable log with limited scrollback

  • Multiline entries that are hard to reconstruct

  • No access to core numbers like target AC, modifiers, or damage types

What we’d love to see:

  • A full combat log buffer per encounter

  • Exportable .txt or .json format

  • Logged entries with:

    • Actor names, rolls, targets

    • Attack/spell types, hit/miss outcomes

    • Saving throws, conditions applied

    • Damage dealt (with type)

Optional bonuses: filter toggles, in-game dev-log mode, modding/debugging utility.

Precedent:
World of Warcraft’s Recount (and later, Details!) became must-have tools for learning mechanics, optimizing builds, and documenting performance. Baldur’s Gate 3 has just as much tactical richness—and its players are just as motivated to understand what actually happened when the dice hit the table.

Use Cases:

  • Tacticians and challenge runners

  • Streamers and roleplayers

  • Mod authors and spell testers

  • Accessibility tools

  • Anyone who’s ever said “Wait, why did that miss?”

Closing Thought:

If the point of a tactical UI is to inform decisions,
then giving us five lines of clipped scrollback is like giving an aerospace engineer a Lite-Brite.

We don’t need a tactical AI—just a decent flight recorder.

Give us the tools. We’ll write the doctrine.
