Trying to make a mod that'll fix another mod, help needed

I'm trying to develop a small mod that the only thing that does is add one line to a script from another mod.

I'm having problems trying to save the new version of the script. I want it to override the old script, but GECK saves it as a different one, appending "DUPLICATE000" to the name of the script. I don't want that.

What should I do? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: After a lot of fiddling with GECK and FNVEdit I managed to fix the issue, however, I don't know what the hell I've done. I think it's because I've used FNVEdit to explicitly mark the original mod as a master of mine and overwrite the FormID of my script to match its master's, but I'm not sure if I've done it right. I'm just confused.
