Alex032691 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 So I've been playing through multiple playthroughs of BG3 with many mods installed, and the one thing that has been preventing me from completing the game is all these crashes. During patch #3 for example after I killed Gortash, when I tried to get back to Baldur's Gate it would always crash and I could not progress any further. Then during patches 5-7 it would always crash on me sometime after I entered Moonrise Towers for the first time. But then on patch #8 it wasn't crashing during Moonrise Towers anymore, and every minor crash I had before Moonrise Towers had been fixed so I really thought that I wasn't going to have anymore crashes this time, until today. Now after I've killed Ketheric Thorm, I then went into the portal, then started dialogue with Karlach about Gortash, and during the dialogue that's when it finally crashed. I tried two more times to finish the dialogue but it's still crashing and it's so frustrating. Have any of you been having these crashes, and if so then do you have any idea on how to fix them? Because BG3 is one of my all time favorite games and it's such a shame that I still haven't been able to complete it to this very day. Why the f*#@ is this still happening?
CatastrophicalCat Posted May 6 Posted May 6 (edited) maybe a corrupted save if it saved right in/before the dialogue or a mod issue. Try to load the previous save. (or maybe you need to go back a few saves if you notice anything being weird) I had it crash but only once consistantly on my laptop. it was almost always my laptop overheating that was the problem. some i have no clue why it crashed but when i loaded the game it would be fine. once it corrupted something on the save then loading the previous save fixed it. had to do a couple things again but it's better than restarting fully. A friend had some consistant crashes and they where most definitely mod related. load order messing up. fixing the mod load order or removing the mod that causes the issue and loading the game to a previous save always fixed that. Some where the game bugging out, not crashing. but things where just weird and sometimes it crashed at some point. but the same thing fixed those as well. Edited May 6 by CatastrophicalCat
rubyxblade Posted May 10 Posted May 10 As Cat's friend, I might recommend taking a close look at your mods. I feel like there's a conflict, or perhaps an old one that needs either updated or tossed, especially if you've been trying to play with the same list since patch 3. I would start *fresh* (sorry, I know, unpopular penguin) with a load order that you know WORKS. I have over 200 mods in my main load order, and it's not perfect, but it gets the job done. I've managed to fix a few so that they're as beautiful as I can make them! LOL I still mess up my load orders from time to time, but I have a few that I can guarantee work. I am like you, and play too many games at a time. IF you're a Steam user, I would also say that you think about disabling the cloud and reduce your game files to a level you can live with (I reduced mine to one lol) per file. I found that taking direct control of my files helped me. Try to run a file check on BG3! Also clearing your level cache. I do that once a week. If you have BGMM, update it! Check your settings. I nearly ground my teeth to nubs because I hadn't checked my settings and they were causing issues! Good luck! If you need help and are willing to be helped by someone who is easily confused and sometimes quite toxic, message me.
Antisthetic Posted May 24 Posted May 24 While i agree with starting fresh on mods, i also had this issue and i can tell you how i got around it. I have mods that say they're stable on patch 8 but at the same time I'm crashing after killing kethric. It may be a player party size thing if you have a party expansion mod, however i don't like trimming down if i don't have to. BEFORE i talk to any one OR go anywhere, i go to camp right away. I talk to Dame Ailyn and Isobel, I talk to all my companions, etc. while in camp and then instead of leaving camp i use the map and teleport to the moonrise rune. To be sure i separate my character from the group and walk into the towers by myself. No crash happened for me so i brought my party along and its fixed, I can walk around as normal and interact with everyone. I also recommend saving regularly during this just in case you crash again while talking to someone and you can narrow down exactly when it happens. its not perfect but it got me to the end of the game and I had no more crashes after that.
