Achillezop Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Lately since my mods started to get some attention i started receiving some comments under them from users that didn't download the mod but commented it just spreading hate toward the mod and who downloaded it. I get that not every one will like the mods i make but its becoming kind of boring to manually moderating comments that add 0 value beside free hating. So i'd like to have more option to restrict who can comment. Like it would be nice only downloaders of the mod to be able to comment. In that way people that have no interest in the mod will just let it be without the ability to spread hate. That will make the comment section healthier and more enjoyable for who want to express appreciation or ask for help with something. I don't see the point of giving the ability to say they don't like mod to people that don't even use it. 3
Community Manager Pickysaurus Posted June 11 Community Manager Posted June 11 We've talked about this before, but it doesn't really fix the problem. If users are told they have to download, they'll just click the button to start downloading and then proceed to comment. If they're that determinned to be a detractor you'd be surprised how many hoops they'll jump through.

Even if half the people are discouraged by it its a win. And at least like that if they want to do free hating they need to support the mod downloading it. Twich did a similar thing with the "only followers chat" for the same reasons and it works. And if you want to avoid the download into instant comment thing you can, like twich do, give the option to set a 5/10 minutes timer users need to wait between downloading and commenting a mod. 90% of people wont waste time just to hate comment a mod they wont install, so that greatly reduce the problem. I'm not saying to make it mandatory but having the option would be cool and save modders a lot of comment moderation time. Its quite easy to implement too since you already have the function that tells if a user downloaded the mod or not, so why not.
Community Manager Pickysaurus Posted June 11 Community Manager Posted June 11 Would it make sense to - rather than block commenting - have some kind of visual indicator in the comment if the user has actually downloaded the file? 1
showler Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I'd say it's not a good idea to prevent people from asking a question about a mod to decide if they want to download it or not. 2 1

I feel like no one will ask a question about a mod before trying the mod. And if that happens either the user didn't read the description section or its the mod author fault for not making things clear in the description section. In any case my suggestion is to give the option to the modders to chose how to handle the comment section, not to force everyone to do it that way. More options is always a good idea.

I feel like that wont solve the problem. I mean sure people will see if the ones commenting have actually used the mod but if a comment its not about the quality of the mod but just pure hate cause they don't like the type of mod you make it doesn't really matter if the user who comments downloaded the mod or not...

NexBeth Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Giving the "option" to MAs is not a negative, and if there is a negative it only effects the MA who uses it. 2
