CAN'T UNINSTALL!!

Recommended Posts

Alright so this is what i wanted to do:

Delete all my mods so I can start fresh and download the mods again that i REALLY wanted

This is what i did:

"To save time i think i'll just delete the entire Oblivion folder and just reinstall it and begin downloading mods again" (I just wanted to reinstall it to get rid of all of the meshes, tesxtures..... that just deleting the esp files wouldn't take care of)

THIS is the problem

My Computer thinks i still have oblvion. I have deleted everything oblivion in my sight-- oblivion on the progam files list, the whole bethesda folder, the "run launcher" icon... everything. So when i go to pop in the disk to reinstall it still says play...... and uninstall. I can't play obviously and i can't uninstall either because it says it can't find the oblivion setup to uninstall it. I've tried going to the add/remove progams and I can't remove it either (probably because it looks for the same thing)

Please! Someone tell me there is away for me to unistall and install!

Try creating an empty file named Oblivion.exe in the same place that the original file was at.

I f you don't know how, make a text (.txt) file and save it It dosn't matter if there is anything in it or not. Then rename it to Oblivion.exe.

Then try the uninstall procedure. I haven't tried this my self, so let me know if it works ... or not.

The reason it will not reinstall is Oblivion creates some entries in the Windows registry when it is installed. By deleting the file it needs to have for the uninstall to work, those entries are still there, so it thinks the game is still installed .

Create a new folder to hold it. You will have to create the Bethesda Softworks folder first, then create the oblivion folder inside of it.

The file structure looks like this in XP C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion

Find the program files folder and create the Bethesda Softworks folder

Then create the Oblivion folder inside of that one.

Then create the new Oblivion.exe (renamed from a text file created with notepad or something else)

If this dosn't work we may have to do major surgery - directly edit the registry which is not recommend for people who are not familiar with the registry.

Aha! I have found the soultion. This may help anyone else with the sam problem.

1. Put the oblivion cd in the computer

2. Just exit out of the oblivion launcher that pops up

3. Go to my computer

4. Right click the disk drive the the cd is in (mine is ;E) and click on Explore

5. click on setup.exe

DONE!
