Crashing after exiting to menu

Every time I exit to the menu screen after playing for a little bit, the game crashes. Is this a common problem with anyone else or is it just me?

This is fairly common. When I first started playing FO3 mine did it every single time. I was never really worried about it, but did end up fixing it after coming across a post here on the Nexus which for the life of me I cannot recall. Do a search on "crash on exit" in this forum and you will see a number of threads on the issue. It could be one of the ini thread related settings or just maybe a mod order issue.

You might also want to download FO3Edit and learn about how it works. Specifically about Merged Patch and Masterupdate. Many issues can be fixed with FO3edit. Feel free to ask me any specific questions you might have about things. Any answers I gave you right would be just be a shotgun approach and guessing.

Thanks for replying, just to clarify I have been working on my load order so I think the issue has to do with an existing game bug. For instance, whenever I exit the Megaton entrance the pipboy light either makes the screen go white (everything is still visible to a degree), and the exit to main menu crashing.
