First off, I'm running XP with 4GB RAM and I've replaced my dead nVIDIA 7950 GT with a nVIDIA GeForce 9600.

I used to be able to play on quite high settings with the 7950 GT (8x AA, Bloom, everything pushed to the highest setting) and have very minimal lag (worst FPS was 27).

However, with the GeForce 9600, I'm running on the same settings and getting an average FPS of about 13 both in and outdoors, and here's the kicker: I threw all the settings as low as I could. No AA, no Bloom, no shading, and the framerate won't improve. And what's worse is, hell, I can play Crysis on the highest settings with no lag!

What can I do to improve the framerate? It's really choppy, and it gives me a headache.

Hmm, not sure... Update drivers maybe?

Also is it a 9600gs or 9600gt, because a gs is weaker than gt.

Also both 9600gs/gt are weaker than say an 8800gt. Not sure about 7950 though...

The 7950GT is TWO 7900s put into one.

The 9600 is one card.

The issue here is that you have a more advanced card with MUCH less power.

Something that is old and powerful can still beat something new.

Look at it like Series 7, rating 950

and Series 9, rating 600

This isn;t an exact science or anything, but it helps in explaining that the cards dont work purely on one number sequence alone.

Honestly, its probably because your card is no where near as strong as the older one was, there may be some tweaks you can do to up your performance though.
