Signur
Hi,Originally i had a cracked version of the game, which i had modified with ressource hacker. There was one feature i really enjoyed : The arc thrower was moved to the pistol slot (simple edit of the arcthrower line, if i remember well it was just the propertie[0] who change from Ewp_None to Ewp_Pistol and the Propertie[4] Ewp_Backpack became Ewp_None)I played the game a lot so when i saw a sales on steam, i bought it (i support AFTER i tryed the game) and i stopped playing for a while.I come back to the game and update are there.I re-edit the game with ressource hacker and everything is fine BUT no arc thrower in pistol slot. The line is modified, but the change does not work. Everything else work fine.I saw that the version is an issue when i tried to do with toolbok. I used the patch to downgrade. It did not worked (i did not followed the procedure) so i did followed the instruction, everything went well and it even said that it was successfully downgraded. At that point toolbok load without error message (a new thing, usually he does not like my upk files) and i can select all the option i want.Again everything work fine BUT the arc thrower is not in the pistol slot. The thing is, i would gladly trade ALL the change i did for the arc thrower in pistol slot. That's a requirement for me. I can't stand not to taze a foe after a "run'n'gun" action. So,anybody have an idea? Thanks in advance.
dubiousintent
This is the typical symptom that you have not disabled the 'phone home' feature. The wiki article 'Steam and mods' explains how to do that, and other steps you need to take. -Dubious-
Signur
I used the patch for downgrading, it include the "prevent phone home" step. It's donehere's my host file : # Copyright © 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.## This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.## This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one# space.## Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.## For example:## 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.# 127.0.0.1 localhost# ::1 localhost127.0.0.1 localhost::1 localhost127.0.0.1 www.applian.securesites.com# Prevent XCOM Phone Home127.0.0.1 prod.xcom.firaxis.com127.0.0.1 prod.xcom-ew.firaxis.comPlease, at least read the post i made. I said ther patch said EVERYTHING went ok. It included the allowing of phoning home and then re dissabling the phone home.It has nothing to do with that.. Signur
I see that this forum does not have much frequentation... Let's hope a good soul comes along.I was working on fixing this issue when i found a post talking of the same issue in the toolbok post.Basically someone said that when steam was offline, he had the arc thrower as a pistol, when it was online it did had it.I tryed. While offline i do have the arc thrower in the pistol slot.So steam is able to phone home even though i disabled it in the host fileI also added one line in the host file # Copyright © 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.## This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.## This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one# space.## Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.## For example:## 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.# 127.0.0.1 localhost# ::1 localhost127.0.0.1 localhost::1 localhost127.0.0.1 www.applian.securesites.com# Prevent XCOM Phone Home127.0.0.1 prod.xcom.firaxis.com127.0.0.1 65.118.245.165127.0.0.1 prod.xcom-ew.firaxis.comOne line with a specific ip^(advised i found on the toolbok post). It does not change anything, only being offline seem to do the trick.I can i prevent steam from making sneaky calls home? dubiousintent
The game EXE has a function (see wiki article 'Class: IniLocPatcher - XCOM:EU 2012') that performs the 'phone home' operation. It is possible to neuter that function. The article has details. This is a very recent discovery, and we don't have any reports about it's effect on this particular issue, so do let us know if it solves this for you. And just so you know: disabling 'phone home' is a needful step, but the Downgrade will install successfully without. It's the effect 'phoning home' has on other INI and INT files that will mess up that and other mods, because that happens every time the game is launched. -Dubious- Edited January 31, 2014 by dubiousintent
