Cities of the Future

Travis sat there, blushing, realizing he'd almost pistol whipped one of his comrades. He put away his gun and nodded to Candiru One.

"Will do. Sorry about all that." He looked down at Four. "Damn, that's gonna leave one hell of a mark."

He pulled up the map on his PDA, making sure what floor they'd have to reach to get to the computer. He stepped into the elevator, pressed the floor number and waited.

The elevator played a pleasant, if repetitive, little piece of muzak for them as it took them two levels down.

Travis had time to check the map on the way.

It seemed that the third floor down was far more orderly than the upper levels, for whatever reason. It was also the deepest. The level was composed of narrow corridors in a grid-like pattern, radiating out from a large central hall. There were no quarters on the third level, most of the space was used for the base's power generators, emergency generators, primary and emergency air processors, primary and emergency waste processors and, of course, the main computer room. That was their goal, where all of the data gathered by the scanning array in the crater was processed and sent on to the rest of the local fleet and military.

As they exited the elevator, they also found that the ceiling light fixtures were more sparse, making this level considerably darker than the one they'd just come from. The two of them were very close to the central hall at the moment, in a corridor running behind the computer room. The entrance itself was from the hall, at one end of it. Armories and guard rooms were at the other end of the hall. Due to the layout, there were plenty of entrances to the hall.

For the moment, they were alone, though they could constantly hear, in the distance, the faint echoes of booted feet slowly marching through the corridors. Likely guards on patrol.

Knocko strained his ears, wondering if it was possible to make a guesstimate as to how many guards there were in a patrol.

It was a longshot, but he wanted to know what they would be up against if the two parties met each other around a corner.

Travis looked quickly for a place to duck himself into for some cover. He hoped he wouldn't have to stay and fight, knowing it wouldn't come out well. He drew his pistol so he'd be ready. Hopefully they'd pass by and there wouldn't be a fire fight. Maybe he could impersonate a nervous engineer if he had to or something.

OOC: Sorry gents, I was away for the weekend.

Knocko copied Travis' plan, doing his best to keep his massive bulk from giving away their position. His adrenaline was having a strange effect on him and more than one part of him just wanted to dive out and face the lurking danger head on.

Providing the troops pass, he has a plan that he would like to share with Travis.

The two found a wide doorway and pressed themselves into it as well as they could, Knocko in particular making an effort to suck in his bulk. A short while passed, the guards getting closer and closer, and eventually they walked by, never even glancing left or right. A short distance away they turned a corner and were out of sight.

Despite marching in unison down the corridor, the two soldiers seemed extremely at ease, chatting and holding their rifles pointed at the floor with one hand while using the other to gesture. Both of the guards were wearing green upper body armor and wearing helmets which covered most of their heads.

Security seemed lax, and the guards didn't seem very alert.

Perfect...

Knocko whispered to TravisL

"I think we oughta get our hands on one of those uniforms. You could put it on and I could be a 'prisoner.'

Cliched I know, but hey, I think we will be able to cover a lot more ground that way, provided nobody stops us. Just keep up the impression that I'm extremely violent and dangerous and that you don't have time to chat."

Travis liked the plan, but felt it may not work.

"What if you appear too rowdy?" whispered Travis. "What if another guard tries to help? Or tries to follow us? We may want to mod it a bit. Maybe if I was the prisoner? That way they wouldn't think they needed to help."

Travis kept his ears and eyes alert, not wanting to get surprised.
