I am Annoyed about PC World

Recommended Posts

I am very annoyed as I need another 512 megs of RAM for my machine and the irresponsible gits at PC world haven't provided me with a specification manual for my PC so I can't find out whether i need the 2700 or the 3500 for my motherboard. I have tried the DX diag but it doesn't say. Thanks to PC World, i am going to have to take my whole blumin machine apart just to find out what type of RAM I need.

I have never liked PC world. Every time we go to them they make that tutting noise like it is going to cost a hell of a lot of money and when we took a moniter to be repaired they didn't even take the cover off it. How about that for annoying?

I think you mean either PC2700 or PC3200 - 3500 is the non-standard DDR433, and not many systems specifically say that's they're maximum.

One way to check is to boot your computer, and when it does the memory check, it'll say what BUS speed you're running at. (along with the CPU speed). If it says 400MHz, grab DDR400 (PC3200), if it says 333MHz, get DDR333(PC2700).

This won't work in all systems, especially if you're using a custom BIOS (like something a name-brand computer would have). In this case, you'll have to go into your BIOS (usually by pressing DEL or F10 or something during the boot sequence). In there just look around in your system settings until you find something like FSB or BUS speed. And don't worry about accessing your BIOS. As long as you don't make changes and save the settings, none of your settings will be changed.
