Neehsen
Hello everyone, There is something that's been bothering me for quite some time now. I was planning to Rp a character that doesn't know how to read. Ii think it would be realistic for certain types of people in skyrim not beeing able to read since ''The work of the mind'' doesn't seem to be well appreciated in the province. Since it all takes place in a medievalish world, it would make sense to me that only a small portion of the population would know what to do with a book. However, you find books and letters all around the place and in almost every home. Apart from the college of Winterhold I don't see any educational institutions in Skyrim.I was thinking of a mod that changes the font of all written documents and the road signs to wingdings or something. Also, you wouldn't be able to learn anything from skill books or learn about the lore from books. You could also remove adding spells from spell tomes since, I assume, they require reading as well. Maybe you can prevent any quest that starts by reading a book or letter from beeing added to your quest list. Admittance to the CoW could also be denied if you can't read. You can, of course, add a way to start these quests anyway by, for example, adding npcs that tell what is written in those documents. This way you can still do most of the quests in the game.I'm not a modder so I don't know if that is even possible and, if yes, how much work it would take to do such a thing. It's just an idea I had because it would add a lot to the immersion, especially if you can't read the road signs. So what do you guys (and gals) think about this idea?
