SomethingCrazy
Note: Wall of text ahead. I'm trying to create a mod that makes your "carry capacity" very realistic. I mean only being able to equip/carry what it looks like you can actually hold (So get rid of the whole "carry capacity" and replace it with something else maybe? I'm leaning towards a slot system like most MMOs would have.) You CANNOT carry more then it looks like, meaning there would be no over-encumbrance (Maybe a debuff though to stamina regen or cost depending on how much your carrying, like when wearing heavy armor.) There's some mods that lower your carrying capacity which doesn't allow you to loot every body or chest you come across but can still break immersion when your carrying say, four greatswords and a several one-handed swords. There's even one that allows you to see multiple weapons and such (Equipping Overhaul) which is close to what I'm looking for but not quite. Here's an image of what I would like to create:-Everything your holding is shown on the PC (Equipping Overhaul does something VERY similar to this, making me think that this would be the limit of the mod tools.)-Can only carry what it looks like the PC can carry (Can't have 100 pounds worth of object such as ingot, weapons, armors, ingredients etc. sitting in your magical pocket which leads to another dimension....) You would only be able to carry a few weapons (left and right hand, maybe some on your belt and/or back?) only one armor set (The one your currently wearing) and only a few books/potions provided you have the proper equipment to carry them (i.e. Sabre backpacks/Bandoilers: Bags and Pouches. Which would also allow you to carry other items like tents, or free up a weapon slot and put a woodcutters axe on the bag, or even a torch, which is all implemented with them.) This feature will hopefully include arrows, with most quivers being able to hold 20-30 arrows and each one having its own weight (Instead of only the first one weighting whatever then the other 25007978 arrows weighting nothing..)-Backpacks will have limitations, allowing only certain items to be placed in them (i.e. Can't put a greatsword into a backpack. Can fit numerous ingredients in it or a few potions.) Can carry extra books with a book holder, more potions with a potion holder, lockpicks and other small items in a satchel. Carry one torch ON your pack and maybe one inside if there's "room." -This would make follows more valuable as they could carry some extra loot. -Won't come out of a dungeon with 10,000 gold worth of loot (Immersive breaking so a win for me.)-Hoping to make horse inventories so you can claim addition loot (Won't be connected to the player no matter where s/he is.) Here's where having a "slot system" would be bad.-Might be unable to complete quests (You must grab Red Eagles sword and carry it to his cave only all your "weapon slots" are full meaning drop one or come back later to do it. Doing the "Jagged Crown" quest, your supposed to drop your helmet so you can bring the item to whichever leader your with? Lol)-Lose one-time items. Using the above example, say you have weapons like Dawnbreaker and other vanity weapons like it. You now must abandon one of them for Red Eagles sword to complete the quest.-Complete a quest which rewards you an item like Dawnbreaker but your full on weapons already (I don't even know how the game would react to this.)-Wanting to deck out some mannequins in your house but can only carry one set meaning you have to wear it there then unequip and place it on it, afterwards you must walk back naked to wherever your set is so you can re-equip it. And I'm sure there's more. This is a mod I'd really love to see but can't see a...proper...way of doing it. I was hoping the community would give me some suggestion on how I could go about this. Maybe there's a better way then using slots? Anything you guys got just throw it out there. Also if anything mentioned above is more then what the mod tools can provide, please state it as I'm new to modding. SomethingCrazy
Apparently I'm talking to myself but I'll just keep posting my thoughts here if anyone wants to jump in and give some suggestions or whatever. Here's how I'm hoping its going to go. -Everything will be categorized with a prefix and suffix, describing where it can go. Prefix = XL(extra large), L(large), M(medium), S(small) which will determine what kind of space it takes up. XL = two-handed weapons, L = one-handed weapons, M = books, big potions, most foods, bigger looking ingredients/materials (venison, hides etc.) S = lockpicks, small potions, flowers, smaller ingredients/materials. Suffix = W(melee weapon), R(ranged weapon), P(potion), B(books), M(miscellaneous), and X(doesn't have a suffix). For example you will have four L-W slots on your belt meaning you can equip four one-handed melee weapons (swords, axes, maces, daggers) on your belt.-There will be many "slots" for you to carry equipment and other items in/on. For characters without backpacks, satchels, and so on, you'll be able equip four L-W on your belt (two on each side) and one XL-W plus one R on your back. If you have a backpack like the one Frostfall provides, you can also equip one L-W on the side of it (where the woodcutter's axe usually goes) and of course your torch. You can also place several M-X or S-X inside the backpack. Having something like a satchel will allow you to carry more S-P, S-M items and so on.-Armor will not need a prefix or suffix as it doesn't share slots. Ranged weapons don't have a prefix as their all relatively the same size and don't share slots (only one can be equipped at a time. Can't have a bow and a crossbow) Quivers have neither as they don't share slots with anything else. Arrows can only be taken if you have a quiver equipped.-Carrying capacity will be removed along with becoming over-encumbered which accompanied it. However you will receive a debuff (slower stamina regen, bigger stamina cost) the more equipment/items you are carrying. This being my first ever mod, I feel like I'm biting off more then I can chew but whatever. That's about all I got so far. Still haven't found out a good way to work out the whole "quest item" thing mentioned in my above post or the mannequins. If you have any advice or suggestion, even if it's taking a completely different approach, then just share it here and we'll see what happens.
