Xenobuzz
I was just about ready to kick my screen in when I accidentally discovered how to get to the Games For Windows LIVE site and NOT the Xbox LIVE site so I could purchase Point Lookout for the PC, NOT the Xbox. Of course, they make it easy to spend your money on Microsoft Points, but when it comes to making sure you're spending them on the PC add-on, NOT the Xbox add-on, by God, you'd better be related to Sherlock Holmes!! My solution (I'm sure obvious to many) came from avoiding LIVE altogether. I clicked on "Downloads" and then on "New Content Available." FINALLY, I was back at the screen I recognized! Doesn't stuff like this make you want to burn down the nearest corporate headquarters you can find?! I made a point to Bookmark the link so that I won't have to play detective again when Mothership Zeta is ready. Since it seems that 1.6 didn't screw up everything, I decided to give it a try since I'll be starting a new character soon. Now, I realize that the following information may seem blindingly obvious to all you net rangers, but I'm as green as grass when it comes to most technical stuff. If you use Vista and you have UAC active (User Account Control), YOU MUST TURN IT OFF TO GET THE PATCH TO INSTALL. If you don't, UAC's constant warning prompts will interrupt the update process to the point where it will fail to complete. You can temporarily turn off UAC through the Control Panel, run the update, and then turn it back on. Believe me, successfully accomplishing this simple series of steps made me feel like Phineas Phreak! Just some advice for any other noobs out there who just want to play & have fun without having to spend too much time under the hood. Oh, I have to reiterate again how much I deeply appreciate everyone who is behind GFWL Disabler. I wouldn't be slogging the swamps of Point Lookout without you! MMMMMMMMWAH!! Dave S. overload1977
i always have it off its a waste of space, because i have it off all the time, i have got game that are 10 years older or more to work on vista :) and alot of them they say dont work now i`m laughing Data Execution Prevention is a security feature that can be a bit of a pain at times. Often things will simply appear not to run at all; hopefully you will notice a bubble from the taskbar letting you know that DEP is the cause. If Vista (and actually this has been around since Windows Server 2003) sees that a process is being spawned that "could" be unwanted, DEP shuts it down. This is especially common in some application installations: if a Windows Installer setup (MSI) calls an executable in Vista, DEP could very well put a stop to it. If you are trying to run an installation or other executable being stopped by DEP, it could save you some trouble so turn it off while you attempt to give it another shot… Run a command prompt as administrator. From the start menu, select "All Programs", then "Accessories" and right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut and choose "Run As Administrator". From here you can use the following command to disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) with the following command: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff Keeping your command prompt open, run your setup or other process being stopped by DEP. Then, to turn it back on again, do the same and run the following: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn
