sounds like you need the GECk

Those shouldn't be documents,

they should get the red GECK suitcase icon when you install the GECK

Sounds like you've picked notepad or MS word to open esp files by default

or the default program to run them with

Idk though it's not like you said a lot in that post

when you save mods?

When you save them with what, while trying to do what?

did you mean when you save them when you are downloading?

Do they still work if it says they are word documents? No, We use .Esp .Esm .Nif .dds not .doc

The only documents you get are read me's

Convert them to whatever the other file is, What is this other file

I"m pretty sure the only converts are the people that reskin with photoshop

Do you have winZip or WinRAR

Oh wait, hey that would do it, if you didn't have a archive program like winrar or winzip then when you download stuff

it wouldn't be recognised by windows, after you have those programs it changes the icon, kind of like the GECK does for .Esp's

Idk

Okay so, you download from Nexus the best place for modz ever

You just downloaded a compressed version of that mod,

which is uncompressed

or unpacked, by compression programs, mainly WinRar an WinZip

They are called archives, or archive files, because compressing files is a great way to store stuff

or in our case store it for upload an transfer via the net, Makes them take up less space

so they travel faster.

So pretty much you download save it, then open that file with a program like winrar or winzip

then the easy way is to drag an drop the files inside the archive to where you want to install them

but it's best to start with the read me, or at least the pinned how to install mods here on the forum

Pinned as in pinned to the top because we are tired of answering these noob questions

Anyway, okay so some mods will install automaticly, but it's dangerous, also it's dangerous to just

blindly select yes to replace files in the fallout 3 data file, It's best to follow the folder paths down

and see what they replace. Install the hard way, manually. You also wana keep it clean.

And you'll wana spend some time readding about the patch set ups an install set ups

as well as the tweeks for fallout 3 to avoid crashing all the freaking time
