Vac
So the AOE components for Fire and Frost are pretty easy to get. The bigger the area on fire spells, the bigger the explosion. For frost, you get a bigger fog. What about shock? I have a shock spell with an area of 15 ft, and I can hit the ground right next to an enemy and they won't take any damage. To further confuse things, some times I'll hit an enemy with my single target shock spell, and a nearby enemy WILL take damage! Help! I'm so confused! All I want to do is make stuff explode with a lightning bolt
Exes
I think shock AOE damage works like a "chain lightning" spell in other games, where lightning shoots off at more than one enemy once the first aimed shot hits something. Try aiming at something above the ground if you don't want to shoot a direct hit at one enemy to get it to work because I think the line of sight effects what gets shocked, and the ground sometimes blocks the lightning from hitting as many things D:
