t3hf4ll0ut
3DS Max and Blender. If you can afford 3DS Max then definately get it. Make sure you're buying 3DS Max 2009 though. Most plug-ins aren't compatable with 2010. Blender is also the best alternative for people who can't afford 3DS. www.autodesk.com www.blender.org
TheChan
I haven't used it much, but I liked 3dsmax. I've always wanted to try mudbox. I can't believe 2010 is $4,000, that's ridiculous.

jaysus
true lol... but well autodesk bought most available 3d tools so they can make the prices they want (they are worse than EA imo, but they had much better advertisement in the late 90ties amongst architects and engineers which like to spend billions on tools and thus were abe to buy each and everything -.-) and get 2010 instead of 2009... true that not all plugins are compatible with it yet but you wouldnt buy windows 3.11 neither just cause vista doesnt support all plugins either lol imo blender is just as good if you can get around the interface ;) anyway teddy3d is much better than any of these... :P i love it... zbrush is quite cool too... but totally different to use... must have been made by someone who never saw a keyboard (no delete? wth? i have a del key on my keyboard since... AGES! i also want a bloody select object mode! subtools suck!)
Skree000
i prefer max 9 instead of 2009 or 2010. Everything worked just the way i like it.. I can do without Graphite Modelling tools, Xview and all those other things... its the old school version :) just like photoshop 7 :) only thing its missing is lens correction... and the ability to transform multiple layers at once =/
