Pau1K311y
I should know this considering the amount of time I've been reading the forums and adding my own dumb questions, but could someone tell me how to respond to a specific thread or follow one please. In fact can someone point me to a 'how to use website for dummies page'. I guess I should start to learn the basics instead of clicking blindly through. Apologies as I've probably asked this question before on the forum, but I don't know how to check that either...
Oubliette
Replying to a topic on the forums is pretty easy, there's the quick reply option (which i tend to favor) which opens an editor at the bottom of a thread where you can type out a post and then hit "post" to post that comment. To quote a specific post in your reply, there's a "quote" button below each post, hit that or the multi quote to put a quote in your post. Or use the full editor with the "reply to this topic" button. To follow a particular thread just hit the "follow this topic" button at the top of the page. Faik there's no dummies guide to these things, you can learn by asking or just by hitting buttons (don't worry you won't break anything) to see what they do. Make sure you're paying attention on the off chance you make a change you want to reverse. Good luck.
bben46
We really don't grade people on being able to use all of the functions. This site has grown in many different directions over the years, and there are features that have been added that other sites may not have - and some that others do have that we don't. If you don't understand a feature, or want to do something and don't know how, just ask and someone will help.
Pau1K311y
Thanks for that. When I look through posts I see 'in response to...'. How does that work?
blove
That works from the file side of the site, not the forum side.
Thandal
Thanks for that. When I look through posts I see 'in response to...'. How does that work? When you're on the "sites" (aka the "mods", "files", "image share", or "game-specific") part of the Nexus and you "Reply" to another member's post it automatically embeds your response within the other member's post. But the software that displays those same comments on the "Forums" reads the same database entry and creates the "In response to..." text. If you click on the post number(s) displayed, it will take you directly to the post in question. You can verify this by clicking the "#n" link in the top-tight of every forum post, which will open a new window that contains a full link to that post. The last set of digits in that link is the post number within the Nexus database, and is the same as the number shown in the "In response to" text. Seeing what happens might make it easier to understand. What you see in the the sites: http://static-2.nexusmods.com/15/images/140/1678793-1391886498.png What you see in the Forums: http://static-1.nexusmods.com/15/images/140/1678793-1391885958.png Highly effective on the sites, only passable on the forums. This occurs only because the Nexus enables cross-talk between the two sides at all. Otherwise, the mod comments would only be visible if one opened that mod's page directly. The Forums have much more robust message handling and formatting tools for content created there, but this is the best they can do with things posted in the sites.
