notselfcreated
As soon as I saw Blackhall's Mansion in Point Lookout, I knew this had to be done. My goal is to recreate Maniac Mansion, as faithfully as possible, in Fallout 3. I've been working a few days in Geck--this is my first serious mod. Here's what I've come up with so far. Inside the front door. The kitchen is in front of you.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot0.jpg Man, I was so happy to find those little "gargoyles" in vanilla Fallout.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot1.jpg My favorite. Let me tell you, it was a b*tch to get the Mechanist's security door into the mansion. I did a lot of, er, non-standard things in Geck.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot3.jpg The doors leading to the nuclear reactor and the living room, respectively.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot2.jpg The soon-to-be music room.http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot4.jpg The soon-to-be art room.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot5.jpg
BigKevSexyMan
Looks pretty cool. Although you'll have to tell us what maniac mansion is.

jaysus
do you intend to create just the place or also add the adventure itself?
notselfcreated
I fully intend to do the entire adventure. I'm thinking of disabling weapons, lockpicking, etc., when the player is in proximity of the mansion so that he/she is forced to play the way the game was meant to be played. I would say about 80% of the mansion can be at least approximated using vanilla and Point Lookout models. I have no freaking clue how to get my Green and Red tentacles though. :P
Hateful_kat
My Purple Tentacle. U liek? If you find me some good reference pictures, I can improve it substantially. Edited July 21, 2009 by Hateful_kat
notselfcreated
My Purple Tentacle. U liek? If you find me some good reference pictures, I can improve it substantially.Wow, that is awesome! You even got the evil eyebrow. That's the "Day of the Tentacle" version, whose artist had a very, very different style than the original. The old tentacles had no arms: http://www.abandonia.com/files/games/300/Maniac%20Mansion%20Deluxe_8.png And they were nothing but palette swaps. OK, I don't know who did this picture, but it is AWESOME and conveys exactly the vision I had for this project:http://www.mixnmojo.com/features/content/maniacmansion/maniac_fin.png
Hateful_kat
I'll see about changing it to fit the first game. So, it should be without arms, with 4 circles and a little more slim and tall, I take it? Edit: Will this thing need to be animated? Because I can't do anything but the model itself.
notselfcreated
I'll see about changing it to fit the first game. So, it should be without arms, with 4 circles and a little more slim and tall, I take it?Absolutely. I think most people who played MM played it on their Nintendo, so that's the version they'll be familiar with. EDIT: Progress made since first post: --> Fixed the area around the Mechanist door. How dumb of me--I was struggling to make everything else smaller to fit it, when I could have just made it bigger to fit everything else. -->Because of the door's non-standard size, the art room and music room had to be adjusted to a non-grid length. I hid the cracks with dividers and wooden beams. -->Silly me, I had used Static doors instead of animated doors. They all work now, but I need to add sound. TO DO: --> Add the rest of the rooms. --> Clutter to imitate the game. Note: here are some of the objects that I anticipate needing to import new nif's for: microwave, rotting turkey, week old roast, flashlight, heart-shaped pillow, giant stereo speakers, observatory, hamster with cage, a venus fly trap than can grow, an Egyptian sarcophagus, a mummified corpse, a piano, a Victrola, paint brush, easel, and a weight-lifting machine. --> Script and reference objects so that they behave like the game. --> Other clutter. --> Exterior. Problems to solve: (1) I'll need to learn how to pull apart the mansion exteriors into individual NIFs I can used to customize the exterior. (2) Is there any way possible to directly control an NPC? Is in, actually play as one? (3) Is there a way I can have in-game cut-scenes where the camera abruptly shifts to another location sans the player to be a fly-on-the-wall while other characters talk? (4) Would I get into trouble for using Oblivion as a source for NIFs?
jaysus
Absolutely. I think most people who played MM played it on their Nintendo, so that's the version they'll be familiar with. hu? MM was actually the first game using S.C.U.M.M. which was explicitly made for a computer mouse... so im quite save to say MOST if not ALL people played it in real nerd fashion on a 286 or even 386... 2afaik not 3i quite get what yo umean but you could use *.bik movies, disable playercontrols and such things, similiar ot the scene where you get abducted in vanilla fallout 4and yes youd get in trouble using oblivion assets sorry i dont quite unerstand your other questions...
