Stormborne
Note: Yes, I've googled, searched the forums, read topics and discussions on the matter. I'm only posting as a last resort ok! I guess there comes a time where CTDs finally show up, but I'm just wondering -- The concensus seems to be that after a while mods and the save file have some issues, and I've recently disabled some mods. My question is: Should I just re-enable those ones? I mean I can live with them if that helps to do this without having to start a new game or to reinstall all my mods (80+)? Just hoping to hear if that would be recommended, or if it's actually the last thing I should do! Should I just re-enable mods I took out? Also note: yes I use BOSS and NMM and SKSE and everything. I've been running everything without problems up until recently! It was all going great with just as many mods =\ There was another suggestion to get a log file from the Papyrus in the .ini. I did that too but the log is a bit too complex for me to understand, so not much help there either. Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to read this, regardless. Stormborne
If it helps, the papyrus log contains about 1 million instances of this exact problem: [02/09/2014 - 07:47:01PM] Error: Cannot call IsInDialogueWithPlayer() on a None object, aborting function callstack: [DialogueFollower (000750BA)].dialoguefollowerscript.GetSpeaker() - "DialogueFollowerScript.psc" Line 135 [DialogueFollower (000750BA)].dialoguefollowerscript.OnUpdate() - "DialogueFollowerScript.psc" Line 84[02/09/2014 - 07:47:01PM] warning: Assigning None to a non-object variable named "::temp26" Edited February 10, 2014 by Stormborne
DrakeTheDragon
Hmm, I'm not exactly knowledgeable in regards to Skyrim and Papyrus, but going by past experience in regards to the negative effects removing mods has on your savegames and the errors in this log, I think we can rather nicely see exactly why it is considered a bad thing to just remove a mod and keep using the same savegame still. I admit there are measures to do it correctly, removing mods without damaging your savegames that is, but as much as only very few people know how to do it right as much do I fail to have a clue in this regard. What I'm getting from this log, combined with my knowledge of what happens when you remove a mod 'not' the right way, is that there's now quite a bunch of scripts and instances thereof still executing in your game, while the objects they were running on were removed by you deactivating their mods. Some script still executing must've stored a list of references to actors coming from mods, iterating over it and calling these functions on each entry, whereas the actual actors are no longer present in your game, thus the reference resolves to a "None object" now. As I got no insight knowledge of Skyrim and its mods apart from a few witnesses from inside forums discussions and comments, I can't tell where this "DialogueFollowerScript" is originating from, if it maybe even is from a mod you already deactivated/removed but missed removing the script files as well, or if it is a Vanilla script and only the actual references stored within it now pointing into the void are to blame, but something along that line surely is a good guess at the matter here. In how far it will help re-installing/-activating the previously removed/deactivated mods/plugins I don't know. If you're lucky, the script will take their references up as no longer pointing into the void and no longer throw those errors, but if not, then their re-occurance in your game will create new instances of them different from the ones stored inside this script or wherever, and it won't make any difference or worst case even worsen things by inflating the list with yet more references to objects you better should not remove again. And if those multiple errors in the log even are responsible for your CTDs to begin with is even more out in the blue yet. This is all just blind guessing though, so better wait for someone who 'does' know what he's talking about to come around and maybe have a better idea of what's going on. Stormborne
OK so I'm guessing the truth is that it's all over for me? I don't even want to start a new game anymore this is too sad I was having so much fun. Ty @ Drake for the helpful comment though. If I ever do play again someday I'll be extra careful about what I install. Edited February 10, 2014 by Stormborne
DrakeTheDragon
I'm pretty sure there must be some way to fix things up to working order again somehow. Maybe you'll loose 'something', but definitely not 'everything'. Sadly 'I' can't be of much more help with this, as Skyrim just isn't my game and I simply don't know how.I wonder though why nobody else's chiming in here. This isn't even my part of the community, and they're usually a helpful bunch. :ermm:
jaderoyale
This might help: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31724/? It is a utility to clean saved games. I think there is another similar utility that repairs broken saves but I can't seem to find it. I will post it if I run across it.Also, check out this thread on the Forum: http://skyrimforums.org/sf/threads/how-to-repair-skyrim-saves.46312/ Edited February 22, 2014 by jaderoyale

Mods and save games do not automatically become corrupt simply through the passage of time. However, if you uninstall mods mid-playthrough, all manner of orphan junk will be baked into your save games. The most damaging will be broken OnUpdate events from mods utilizing continually updating scripts. Reinstalling mods and continuing with save games borked by broken OnUpdate events will do nothing to repair those save games. You can, however, use SKSE's 'ClearInvalidRegistration' function, which specifically address broken OnUpdate events and may salvage your save game.
