Max materials and animations

I recently started making weapon mods for oblivion, basic stuff, using 3ds max 2009 32-bit. But What bugs me is that I can't find any tutorials online about how make more advanced materials using Max. They're all for NifSkope or Blender.

 

Also, how would I make an animated object in Max? Same problem as with materials, no Max tutorials I could find

Most of the material settings in Max don't export. The only things that do are the double sided flag (makes a stencil property), diffuse bitmap linkings, diffuse color, ambient color, and specular color. None of the other map channels, or material settings do much of anything else, and all of these can be setup within Nifscope anyway.

Thanks. I'm just not a big fan of Blender. In my opinion the setup is really weird. I've used Max for 2 years now so I definately have some biased opinions, but that's my problem, not yours. I'll check the link. Maybe try and get better at blender...
