Deleting the documents an settings\username\games\fallout3

is such a bad idea, ZOMG

In that folder is The two notepad files for fallout which are mostly options

also it's the fallout.ini making a lot of options available for super tweeking

For example the decal lifetime, if you wanted blood or bullet shells to hang

around for more than a few seconds you can set the timer on them to like 99

See the ole tweek guide http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_8.html

Also in that mydocuments folder is the two notepad GECK.ini option files

or at least they should be

Then you have something called RendererInfo which looking at it is the grapics card settings for fallout3

Hmmm I wonder if there is SLI stuff in there or that you could put in

Then last you have your Saves folder which is all your save games

I have heard of people borrowing someone else's documents folder then

replacing it to get rid of a problem, but usually that's just getting your hands

on someone that doesn't have your problem fallout.ini notepad file or the GECK one

I know I never had to do anything like that.

Provided that you were smart an downloaded FOMM

then Fallout.esm should be at the top of the list

then the load order goes from top to bottom

  • 9 months later...

I have a similar thing actually, and I'm ONLY using the DLC at this point.

I start the game, I get to the "please wait" section. Once that is done... BAM, Crash to Desktop.

Using FOMM to start the game, but even without FOMM it outright crashes at the main menu.

Reinstalling as we speak, but... this is nasty as I was able to play it without problems a bit earlier (aside that it runs slow, but I have an older machine)
