i would bet money that bethseda knows the game would loose all of its authenticity in ES IV if it went MMORPG. LAN would be fun but you would have to find the time to coordinate it so you could all play at the same time so no one party member gets too powerful. and they'd have to work out stuff like if there are quests like the nerevarine...who gets to be it? something like Freeplay in a lan setting would be best for this sort of thing because it would essentially make the players unable to do those single player specific quests and just run around and do guild quests and the like.

at least if they make LAN (praying they do) then the have to seriously consider the quests they're going to put into the game so there isn't a question as to who will become the next main quest hero. but as i've read in a different forum the task would be so enourmous because of the scripts involved with dialouge and how each NPC reacts to every player in the game. 8 players in a game with several thousand NPCS makes for a very far off release date and a hell of a lot of caffine.

Well, Baldur's Gate had a great system for that, it had a main character around which the story revolved. If multiplayer, the main char gets adressed by NPCs when appropriate. It appears to be randomly decided who does the dialogue with other NPCs, so the other players also have influence on events. And, even if the character is someone elses (and on someone else's harddrive!) the main player can still assign it to you, even in the middle of the game! This only works when the game is party-based, but still, it's an interesting way of playing. Only bad thing they had is that the game ends when the main char dies, even if you have the ability to resurrect him...

massive multiplayer online role playing game.

sorry switch, this thread's original intention WAS to have people discuss the likely fate of Morrowind when ES IV comes out but seems everyone is still savy for multiplayer.

haven't played freelance but it sounds like the same thing that would make the game worth playing in mp.

party based would be fun, but i would think that the option for ES should center on keeping you character doing what they normally do and meet up with friends to complete more challengin quests. that way people still play the game normally but know that their friends are in the world as well. if that were the deal i would have a 24/7 server. but if quests were completed by one person and everyone got credit for it that wouldn't be as much fun though that leads to mission critical items etc having to respawn for every player.

There is a TES4 in development? How could I have not known this? I'm sure Morrowind will continue to thrive until TES4 is released to the public. Hopefully the new version will have more lifelike NPC's with scripted routines, as well as an enhanced combat system. If it accomplishes this while maintiang the same level of quality in it's other areas, this game will be replacing TES3 for me.

I fully agree...

Thats what i believe except the all the way hack 'n slash was morrowinds greatest problem.. You were too much independ and the game gave you a lonely feeling. Well i wasnt feeling lonely in suran at the Earthly delights but still ;)

well from what i know is that bethseda opened a thread on the ES forums on the official site asking for ideas people had on ways they could improve the game engine....a lot of talk centered around multiplayer capabilites and reworking the combat system.

hack n' slash is alright, but not entirely the way a game like this should be played, my character now doens't even go out looking for trouble, he just sits in his underground Oblivion Lair, casts summons and pummels them to train spells and armor and weapons.

i like this style of playing because produces the 'not that you'd want to but you know you can' effect. certainly i can go into any bandit place and blow em to bits (sometimes i do while traveling) but most of the time i steer clear and wait for trouble to come to me.

i knew that this style of gaming was ripe for some good moments as i rescently took out two Dark Brotherhood assassins both with daedric wakazashi's. they attacked so i slipped on boot of blinding speed, then as i ran away casted levitate and pummeled them from the air with massive lightning damage....the same technique i use against my summoned golden saints. so if you ask me this makes the game much more interesting as for combat because i'm developing strategies on how to take on much tougher enemies by being creative.

it's not so much the fact that it's hack and slash but rather how you use the simple combat engine and really expand it to a style. but yea, for more melee character such as the assassin, throat slit deffinitely needs to be put in the game.

*cough* off topic *cough*

I think Morrowind will grow stronger after the release of TESV. Adding onto the culture and in depth society of Tamirel will add a greater understanding to Morrowind and the events surronding the Imperlisation of it. Sequals should complment and build on what there predassor set before them.
