TheHaloNinja
I just installed a bunch of mods today. When I tried to start the game to check out the mods, it crashed on me. The OBSE loader window came up as always but as soon as the Bethesda logo came up, it closed and went back to the desktop. A few times it didn't even make the Bethesda lgog. It crashed right at the OBSE window. It didn't get any messages about an error or anything, so I'm not sure what's wrong. I made sure that I didn't download any incompatible mods, so I'm not sure what it could be. If you need the names of the mods or anything, then just ask. If someone knows what wrong, that would be a big help. I really would like to be able to play my game.
Khet
Easiest way to figure out why you're getting a CTD. (Crash To Desktop) Disable ALL mods (even if you 'know' they work) and start the game. Ensure you don't get a CTD.Enable mods one by one, each time launching the game. Wait until you get a CTD.Note which mod caused you to CTD.Disable ALL other mods except for the mod that caused the CTD, see if it still causes it.If not, then it gets fun.Enable (one by one) the mods you had already enabled but this time, keep the problematic mod enabled, wait until CTD.Disable all other mods except for those two and see if you CTD.If not, repeat the process until you have narrowed down the combination of mods that are causing you to CTD (sometimes it's one, sometimes two, sometimes six) From here, do more looking into these mods. Check comments (if available), see if anyone reports a conflict with a mod you already have. make sure your load order is set up properly. If that still doesn't fix it decide whether or not you absolutely want the problematic mod(s) and disable the ones you don't want. Sometimes it's not an easy process, but this is why you ALWAYS check after installing EVERY mod. Yeah, I know, it's annoying, but getting in this habit will save you a LOT of trouble down the road. I've spent an hour going through a list of 280+ mods trying to figure out which ones was causing me to CTD once. Turned out is was actually three different mods, if ALL were run at the same time I'd crash. Learned my lesson from that. Hopefully, you can too. :) Hope this helps. TheHaloNinja
@Khet I've already looked into each mod closely to make sure they were compatible because I didn't want something like this to happen. All of the mods I have, most of the ones I downloaded have no compatibility issues with other mods. And the ones that no have provided patches to fix that. So it's definitely not a compatibility issue. I'll check the last couple mods I downloaded just to be sure, though. I already tested most of the mods but I installed the last few and tried to run it and that's when I happened. I just hope I can remember which ones I installed last. Oh, and about the load order, I've got BOSS. Another this is that, I manually installed some of the mods, so I may have installed one wrong. @dezdimona I don't know what batch load means but I install a few at a time. It seems that the last few are giving me trouble. I think I'm just gonna uninstall everything and then start over. That seems like the best thing to do. Then I can just put them on one at a time and see where the problem comes in. I'll let you know what happens. EDIT: Ok, I just ran into a weirder problem. I just uninstalled Oblivion but I tried to get rid of the mods (and most deleted fine) but a few files related to OBSE won't delete. It says they are being used by another program. Also, I just checked and the main Oblivion EXE file is still there even though I uninstalled it.

dezdimona
bumpbatch load means installing a few mod at atime. you will get conflicts on many mods.Boss is not a miracle mod load order program. We here have tried to explain that over and over.Load order is important and that order worked lonfg before BOSS came along. But its your game, your choise and I wish you luck!
Maigrets
How do you know the mods are all compatible? You've discovered that's possibly not the case. Most modders make their mods to be compatible with the base game only, including myself, so there is always the potential for problems if care isn't taken when installing them. Oblivion closing before it even gets to the logo usually means you have a missing Master file. Also, when conflict is mentioned, especially in relation to OBMM, it doesn't always mean a problem. It most often means there's been a change to the same cell, or object etc and is an overlap, not necessarily a game breaker. When you uninstall the game all files aren't removed. Put your game DVD in the drive, run setup.exe and the problem should be fixed as far as uninstall issues. This is for the DVD version obviously. Quote from the game's own Readme:If you repeatedly uninstall and re-install Oblivion, certain systems will display an error message if you try to uninstall Oblivion again. To fix this, put your Oblivion disk in and run setup.exe. This will clear up the error and you can uninstall and reinstall the game.BOSS can be very helpful, but it's not a miracle worker. There are many mods not in it's database partly because of new ones always appearing and the sheer number of existing mods. This is why you have to order unknown ones manually. Post your load order and someone may see something that's an issue.

I know all the mods are compatible because I specifically made sure to choose mods that have no compatibility issues with other mods. I won't claim to know everything, because I certainly don't. I've only been using mods for about 5 days or so. All I know is what the mods say. The Master file is definitely there because I saw it in the Oblivion folder. I did run setup.exe to uninstall it and that's when it left a few files that I can't delete. I would post my load order but I already deleted everything. I will when I get everything loaded back up, though, to make sure everything's installed properly (assuming I ever get it fully un-installed. I could really use some help with that.)
