Zhenot Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Hello I'm currently texturing armor for "Skyrim", but not sure how to do this. I applied a texture photoshop by using Patterns, was not as expected appearance has low resolution because I had to shrink the image too (I think) What is the correct way to do this? I was wanting to put a "chain armor" texture on a piece of armor. Thank you for your attention
CaBaL120 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 tring to make a chainmail? do not use patterns, can find good chainmail brushes on deviantart or similar sites ... fill the area you want to edit with black on a new layer, paint with white chainmail brush (can easily adjust the size in this way)... when you have the whole surface filled make a copy of the layer and apply normal map filter on it... a range of values between 5 and 15 ...depends how much relief you want.. make a copy of this layer and store for a later use .on the bits of normal map left (the layer that you duplicate) apply xnormal (if you do not have...install it)... normal to cavity mode.... you'll get the base design.remember that black area where you painted with white brush? well put that layer above your cavity... and set to multiply... it will work as ambient occlusion...sort of... have to play with opacity to get good results. back on the cavity layer... give some colors...something metallic... cyan-blue.with dodge tool make some hilights on chainmail rings... nothing strong, can also make some shadows with burn tool... again something very weak.remember to keep the specular of chainmail very bright.you're more or less ready to add dirt , blood, rust...whatever you need at this point... just work with low density so to get a realistical look.
