Shadinator
Hello,I am looking for a mod that will change the stock merchants have based on their area.(for example in Markarth there will be a lot of silver sold, while in the other holds barely any/none.) I know that this is part of a mod called trade routes, but I do not want to use Skyrim Script Extended. Is there a way for me to get what I want without skse?Kind regards,Shadi
bben46
Probably not. Many things added by mods are just not doable using the base construction kit. The functions to do them are just not there. The SKSE adds many previously unavailable functions to the construction kit allowing mod makers to now do many things that were not possible using just the original CK. SKSE is a free to download and free to use addition to Skyrim. If you refuse to use the SKSE, then you will just have to do without those mods that do rely on it. SKSE is simple to install, and just works in the background. Once installed, you will never know it's there. Millions of people use SKSE with no problems. Shadinator
hey, thanks for the reply, but "Sometimes I think we spend more time getting mods to work than we do playing the game - I know I do.". Ive already spent too much time and effort on this, and I do not want to get required mods/programs just for one mod.
bben46
SKSE is required for a lot of mods, not just this one. As soon as you try to run one mod that does require it you will probably start getting crashes when the mod tries to find a function that is not there. If you don't have any mods that do require it, and have it installed, it doesn't do anything - your game runs just fine. Please be sure to actually read the documentation that comes with it - that will save you a lot of grief.
Ninnia
Man de ja vu... bben I was in your shoes once, but take it from me eventually you will at some point have so many mods that skse will be a thing. So rather than thinking about it as just one mod you must have to make other mods work, think of it as a a massive tool box that will open up your available space to deal with stuff. Korodic
SKSE literally takes 2 seconds to install. In the time you typed "I don't want to install it" you could have installed it.The people who sit here and spend time trying to find a way around it are wasting time they could have spent looking up a youtube vid to walk them through it.SKSE is stable and only benefits your game. SKSE gives modders functionality the Dev's originally didn't. If you want the sophisticated/efficient features mods give and they tell you you need SKSE, then you want SKSE. balwick
It even has an automated installer version now. BAM. Done. It doesn't make much sense to resist using it.
Starke
It even has an automated installer version now. BAM. Done. It doesn't make much sense to resist using it.I can think of a few reasons. 1. They don't understand it... okay, I can get that new things can be scary, but SKSE is worth it. 2. They're running a pirated copy of the game. In which case, just buy the damn game already. You're not "demoing" it, you obviously like it, and are continuing to play it, and it runs on your system. And you've got enough money to put together a system that can actually run Skyrim, so it's a bit late to be begging poverty. No excuses. 3. Their antivirus threw a snitfit over it. Okay, this one I actually saw, and it kept me from using OBSE for awhile. Some antivirus software thinks SKSE is viral, it's not. Antiviruses will throw a fit when you have one .exe messing with another in unexpected ways. SKSE does this, but it's actually benign. 4. Fallout 3's script extender would disable achievements... good news, if that's what you're worried about, SKSE and NVSE both work fine with their respective programs. 5. They don't have administrative access to your steam folder. This seems a bit weird to me, but I'm aware of a few overprotective parents that won't let their kids have admin accounts on their own systems. Kinda weird, but if that's the case, you're just going to have to talk them through it the same way you did to get them to mod the game in the first place.
