Stealth without transparency effect

OK so its not "an idea for a killer modification" but still. :)

I would like a modified Chinese stealth suit so when you're in stealth mode (crouching) you don't become transparent.

The effect on NPC's and creatures should stay the same, as in they can hardly see you, just without me seeing myself transparent.

I like playing a stealthy character and the slow motions in VATS are great but only seeing a transparent version of myself kinda ruins it. The only alternative is to not use the stealth suit and its benefits.

Additional request, no helmet with the suit. Again, this is purely for aesthetics and my own personal viewing and gaming pleasure.

Summery:

My favorite apparel in Fallout 3 has two major drawbacks:

- transparency effect

- a helmet that completely hides your face

I would like them removed.

Thank you. :thanks:

10 second mod that removes the Chameleon effect from the object enchant and the Helmet from the Biped Model List.

Thank you!! http://i30.tinypic.com/2isu88.gif

Ha! No more looking like a bag of water.

Now I can use the stealthsuit ànd still have awesome VATS attack animations.

:thanks:

Celebrated to soon it seems.

Not just the transparency but the stealth has been removed completely.

I only wanted the visual effect removed, not the stealth enchantment itself.

Don't know if that's even possible if both are combined into that "Chameleon effect"?

That is unusual. I'll look into it when I get back home to my machine. I'll see if its possible to disable the shader.

Okay, I need you to describe to me how exactly "the stealth has been removed completely".

What I removed was the same effect used by Stealth Boys, which only provide a shader -- there is no actual "stealthing" involved. As far as I know (from my own experiments and reading the GECK wiki), stealth in FO3 is nothing like in Oblivion, if that's what you were expecting. Just because you have the visual effect of appearing invisible doesn't mean you are undetectable. In fact, only one of the Stealth Suit's three enchantment effects is useful. One just plays a special shader effect for when you go into and out of sneak, one is the insivibility visual, and the last is a Sneak skill bonus. The Stealth Boy has one effect that the Suit does not -- it has a weak ability that temporarily stops combat so you can try to make a quick getaway.

Someone who knows better is free to correct my sorry ass if you know what you are talking about.

I'll try but my English might be lacking. Its hard enough to explain it in my own language.

Anyway. When going into sneak I dont look like a bag of water anymore. Thats good, because thats what I wanted removed.

But it also removed the "other creatures notice you less" effect. Thats what I wanted to retain. Thats the benefit of using stealth suit.

So basically its about less realism. I want to see my character normal (no transparency) whilst still being in stealth as far as the game is concerned.

No I wasnt expecting invisibility or 100% chameleon or anyhing like that. Just the same stealthy bonus the suit already has.

But now my character gets detected like wearing normal clothing or armor. So although I think I get what your saying, there seems to be more removed then just the useless enchantments.

With the original stealth suit I'm able to sneak right under the nose of a mutant in broad daylight, with the modified one the mutants detect me when getting within 10 feet or so.

*head hurts* :D

It seems I was wrong after all. Chameleon does have an effect on detection. For some reason, I either misinterpreted my own results or had a bugged experience with it.

There is no clean, easy way to get rid of the visual effect. Its hardcoded, so its not like I can adjust the shader, and there's nothing else that could take its place. The only thing that I can think of is using FOSE commands to dynamically change the sneak-related Game Settings whenever you go into sneak mode. It'll take some time and research to determine which values need to adjusted to achieve the desired result.

Yeah I suspected something like that. Too bad.

I did found this on tweakguides

bUseRefractionShader=1 - This setting controls the shimmery/invisibility effect sometimes used in the game. Setting it to =0 can noticeably boost FPS in areas where this effect is used, such as around invisible characters (e.g. when using the Stealth Boy), or when firing weapons which give off a heat haze (e.g. missile explosions). However obviously this can also ruin realism and prevent appropriate special effects (Fallout.ini).

So setting it to =0 would have the desired effect on stealth armor but with some sacrifices in regard to other heat effects.

Will give it a try later. If its not to noticeable I might be able to life with it.

Thanks for your efforts anyway. :)
