Natsu666
When I go to the Main Menu or the Pause Menu and change the fade on my trees, objects, items, people and grass, everything works fine. The problem is that none of those changes is saved when i exit the game. When I play the game after leaving and coming back, none of the changes from before came through... HELP!? Try entering in the console...saveini... and press enter, before you exit the game and your changes should be saved. What you describe usually happens when you make changes and the game crashes on exit rather than normally.

Deleted771212User
Mods make it crash. Vanilla oblivion is totally stable, so Disable all your mods, do the changes, exit and restart your comp. worked for me :)

Vanilla oblivion is totally stable, so Disable all your mods, do the changes, exit and restart your comp. worked for me :) Well yes of course. I wouldn't be asking if i didn't know that.Thank you for giving another way to save the changes but I'm looking for an underlying factor to the crashes
gpstr1
There's a mod (a couple of them actually, but this is the best one I've seen yet) that prevents that crash on exit problem. It's called FastExit2, and you can get it here at: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410
forli
If you can't change the settings during the game, maybe your oblivion.ini has "Read only".

I always have to press ctrl, alt, delete to get to desktop and then the game comes back on and after that I press alt + tab to get back to the dsktop again to use the task manager to quit the game. Using the in game exit game option usually results in a frozen exiting screen.
