trknman
Okay Gentle Folks, 'nother stupid question. When I create a character/companion in the CS, I would like to add some specific dialogue. If I go to the dialogue screen of the CS NPC editor and click on the topic "greeting" then go to the response box, right click and select "new", the CS just crashes to the desktop. I tried the tutorial on creating an NPC, but when I got to the section on dialogue, the same thing happened. I tried reinstalling the CS but that didn't provide any relief for the problem. If anybody out there has any suggestions, I am open to any and all. Thanx
rdamstrom
I had that same problem and did the same thing you did I reinstalled every thing and stillcrashed only mine had worked in the past. the answer you seek is in the sound card.in my case it was my usb headphones I unplugged them to charge my mp3 player and since I had no other sound device cs would crash.the text response box is also where you record textresponses and why it wants to access you sound card. hope this helps you find your problem
David Brasher
If you have Vista, the CS will not work unless you take steps to sneak out around it. From the description of your problem, I got wondering about something else. Shouldn't you be working in "Topics" instead of "Dialogue?" Dialogue is for the really generic stuff everyone says. If you want your NPC to say real specific stuff about the situation, her or himself, or a quest, you might want to create a new quest and put topics and dialogue in there. Maigrets
There's a bug in the CS when adding a new topic. Go here to read up on how to fix it.http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...he_AddTopic_Bug
trknman
First off, I would like to apologize for taking so long to get back to this. Here's the deal. I created a new companion. She loads absolutely last in the list. Then I tried to set up a little quest, in this case the quest was to find and recruit her. Everything was going along swimmingly, I had my quest Data, Stages, and Targets. The next step called for me to add a new answer to the topic GREETING. I right clicked in the "response text" box and selected "new". Then guess what happened...If you guessed CTD, you win the Kewpie Doll. This is so very frustrating because I am trying to learn a little about quest writing and scripting, and that is especially hard when you can't even get past the Quest Targets stage of the new quest. I am running on an AMD 64 at 2GHz. I have an Nvidia 7600GT and on board audio. Win Vista Home Premium with that ridiculous and annoying UAC nag thing turned off. I tried reading through the wiki article about the Add Topics bug, but it doesn't seem to apply to this situation. If anybody has experience with this problem, or knows somebody who knows somebody...etc, I would be eternally grateful for some help. Thanks in advance to all who even took the time to read this rant
Pronam
This may sound strange, but I heard this solution yesterday on another forum.Try to plug in a microphone, if you don't have one..just put some headphones in the microphone hole.Maye totally unrelated, but 3 people didn't get any trouble afterwards by doing this. Pronam
Hahaha, good luck. Good to hear this works, people seem to have this problem more often..this is good news for them.It is "BisonTusk" (another forum) that found the solution by accident...fortunately.
