FO3 Pixelated / Static Screen

I've been trying to figure out what the issue with this is, though I'm having trouble searching for a solution because I'm not sure exactly how to describe the issue other than with screenshots:

VATS Mode:

Vendor Trading:

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x60/Saa...ScreenShot3.jpg

Water Issue:

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x60/Saa...ScreenShot5.jpg

Whenever I enter VATS, a vendor, or occasionally even the Pipboy, I get this funky pixelated static-like effect. This goes on with water sometimes as well with either bright rainbow colors as seen above, or pixelated. My graphics card is not the issue, because I played the game perfectly fine until I decided to start adding mods, which is where the problem must have originated. I'm getting very annoyed with this, as it's starting to cause game crashes whenever I travel, die, or reload, so I'm going to bombard you with as much information as possible to hope someone can see an issue I'm not.

First off, my mod list from FOMM:

MERGED8.4.09.esp (this file is my own, I created in FO3Edit to merge all above esps, as I was having compatibility issues)

I also am using FOSE v1.0 with a patched Fallout 3 1.1.0.35, because WMK required FOSE, and I was having difficulty with the beta v1.1 for patch 1.7, so I downgraded. I think FOSE is where the problem might lie, but that's just my hunch. I am also using Archive Invalidation, which is active, and Games for Windows LIVE Disabled, which is active.

Other mods that I don't believe are causing the issue but I'll list anyway are:

ReAnimated pack

TypeV Body & Armor Conversion pack

NeilMc's Terrain packs and addons

Other things you might ask for:

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2

Processor: Intel Core2 Quad CPU

Memory: 3070MB RAM

DirectX: 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

I can't think of anything else that you might need, but if you have any ideas, please let me know. Many thanks ahead of time for this, I would really like to be able to try and fix this problem.

MERGED8.4.09.esp

That's a really bad idea. MMM is a huge mod, and so is fook.

I wouldn't do that if you paid me to.

Yeah I could understand merging 20-40 tiny really smalll .esp that just add one tiny item.

Or if you had so many mods that you hit the limit, but you're not even close.

I've got like 150 mods an have not even hit the limit yet, nor have I Merged stuff.

1.1.0.35 Worst patch you could use.

While I agree you should use patches past 1.0.35, Nobody uses 1.0.35

Even when 1.0.35 was the most current patch, only one person was using it

because it crashes so much.

Use 1.5 plus FO3 master update, or 1.6 or 1.7

You can even use 1.6 pluse FO3edit's master update

I'm using 1.5 an master update, because the later patches

just haven't sold me yet, on updating, an then 1.5 working so well.

WMK conflicts with just about everything out there, on top of having some messy meshes,

and also it's just vanilla weapons. You can only polish a turd so much , and in the end it's still Paris Hilton.

Somewhere out there is a compatiblity patch to use WMK with other stuff. If you ask me it's not worth it.

Until they update it at least. Gawd it shouldn't even be on loot lists in the first place. If you wanted a

kit place it in the world or near vendors.

You lack a compatability patch for using MMM an FOOK together.

In this case I think you can get it from MMM.

You put the patch after the MMM.esp then the other MMM optional .esp

after that, and also very last in the load order.

After you load in MMM you have to go ingame an wait 4 days inside somewhere.

Update your FOSE an your fallout, master update it to.

Go get VATS-MCE.esp an VATS at longer distance

maybe even a no auto aim that just puts more focus on the

auto aim cone rather than disable it, avoiding ruining some weapons

You should have FOMM, FOSE, GECK, FO3edit, I think you did just checking.

Launch the Fallout 3 default launcher, turn off AA an AF (performance)

Then enter your grapics cards interface an force whatever AA an AF you want

You may even be able to pick a crossfire AA AF,

I know nvidia peeps get 8XSLI AA or 16XSLI 16XQ

You might could also disable some more settings in the default launcher

then force the grapics card to do the work, rather than the software

which just mucks it up an slows things down

you can also turn the setttings down to half from max an not even notice

Thanks for the help, couple of questions though:

If I use FO3v1.5 with the Master Update, which version of FOSE should I be using? beta v1.1?

With my graphics card, I've maxed out all the settings in Fallout, including AA and AF after entering in my graphics card in the default launcher graphics window. Is this what you're saying I should do? My card can handle the stress I know, but I don't quite understand what you mean by let the card do the work and not the program. If I turn off AA and AF in the Fallout settings, will my graphics card still apply AA and AF if I set it up to do so? And also, how would I set it up to do so?

QUESTIONS ZOMG!

That's not allowed sir.

naw I'm just kidding.

Sorry I've been installing fallout 3 again, on freshly formated hard drives.

hmmm

I think the fose version for 1.5 is beta 6

idk just read the FOSE readmeh

also the mirror download site has information on it

You should read into the tweek guide about max settings

you can turn some up to halfway down an not even notice

then there's also uber stuff in the last part of the guide

http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_1.html

The AA an AF settings

You should be using FOMM to launch FOSE, but we still use the default FalloutLauncher.exe

to change settings, and in this case, what you do is turn off AA an AF there

Then go to your grapics card settings, for the global setting or profile setting for fallout

I use the global, You select override any application setting, in other words force whatever

AA or AF setting you want.

The problem is that Fallout's AA an AF you have to turn way up just to get good texture filtering

And to tell the truth having AA an AF turned off actually looks an works better than any setting

less than 4-8 which is hilarious, mean while inside the grapics card settings there are streamlined

versions of AA an AF, like 8XQ AA or SLI 8XQ SLI 16XQ and such...

While setting a high AA AF setting in the launcher might cause performance issues

you could turn those off, an force AA and AF settings via the grapics card settings

which using an even higher AA an AF settings doesn't effect performance at all.

Not all games are that way, the rule is to use the 3D application's AA an AF settings (fallout3.exe)

However I think a few games like Fallout or the newest grand theft auto's AA an AF settings

really drag down the Framerates or yeild poor texture filtering. Which turning them off

then using the grapics card only, taking the 3D game application out of that process.

Which should free it up to focus on chaos, while the super grapics card can focus on

quality, because it what it's build for anyway.

I'm not sure how ATI does their settings, but I know Nivida an ATI are running right together at all times.

So it stands to reason, that you should be able to force AA an AF settings, overriding any application setting.

If not try updating you grapics drivers, you get nice tools like that with updates, or contact ATI an yell at them.
