NomDeKeyz
Hello, This is my second visit to this forum. My first visit was searching for answers regarding NPC behavior and possible mod conflict; since I never figured out that issue, I decided to try modding for myself in hopes of eliminating any conflict that my favored mods might have been experiencing. I made a chest (w/ a new ID) and placed it in the prison courtyard. Then I re-created each item that I was fond of from other mods (also w/ new IDs), and placed them into that chest. I tested the mod, and it seemed to work fine; everything rendered beautifully. By then, I was sleepy, so I went to bed. This morning, I reopened the mod to further tweak some other things (something that I have done before in other mods, with no issue). This is where my issue began. When I went to try on various items, including those in the chest, as well as those whose appearance I had altered by assigning .nif files, nothing rendered as it should have. Instead, I was looking at invisible patches, with some black and neon-purple shapes here and there. What happened? Why should things that worked the night before, not work the next morning? I have made those same tweaks to another mod, and not had them cause issue to the original mod... *confused* I am new to modding, fairly new to the CS, and a relative noob to this forum... any assistance would be appreciated...If the (possible) answer/s is too lengthy for this forum, I understand. If you can point me toward the article/wiki that I should read, I am happy to teach myself. It's just that there are so many articles to root thru, and many use terms that I am unfamiliar with in their title, so I don't know if I have the article I am looking for without reading it. This may be a lengthy answer hunt if I continue hit/miss browsing. Thanks in advance.~an aspiring modder ~NomDeKeyz
NomDeKeyz
It seems that there is more to .nif files than I currently understand. *contemplating .nifty solutions* I decided to redo everything I had done the night before, (good thing I took such detailed notes).I did get it working again, just as last night. My failing seemed to be when I moved the file locations...I was trying to group the collection of meshes together, the textures together, and the icons together. Each individual mod seems to be packaged this way, so I tried to 'package' mine similarly, ofcourse.Alas, it seems that there is a mystery for me to unlock within a .nif file... a hidden direction/pathway?Hidden only because I have yet to use an application that reveals these hidden things to me. Hrmph. I am not entirely sure which application would be best for this sort of thing. NIFscope sounds promising, yet it also sounds more encompasing than I need for such a simple (in theory) adjustment? Is there anapplication better suited for such a small edit? What might it be, and where might I find it for DL? In the meantime, I will just keep things as they are; a bit untidy in my data files, but perfectly functional. If I continue modding, possibly to make something useful for the public, I will revisit this .nif quandry. So, even tho it seems I have a current fix, I would still appreciate any direction on this matter. Thank You.
David Brasher
NIFskope can show you the NIF and DDS file paths for objects, but you may find that The Elder Scrolls Construction Set gets you the same information quicker. There is a great deal of information in the object window. I am sure there are other programs that could be used too, but I am not familiar with them. dezdimona
nifsKope is a must have utility if your going to mod.it will allow you to alter and add to or delete parts of meshes you like or dilike.it also will allow to correctly install the texture paths for retextures. NomDeKeyz
Thankyou Both David Brasher and Dezdimona for your responses. I think I will stick to what I have working for now, continue to study the CS (including what I may have missed in that object window), and eventually DL NIFscope (or somesuch) simply because I have the itch to mod, and I am willing to figure it out (but not all at once). I will take my time to read thru things before I take on any project more complicated. This little quick-fix mod will do for now. More and better to come, I hope... Thanks again~NomDeKeyz
