Preacher
Dazed and confused, with no memory, you wake up in the mortuary, unable to remember how you got there, where you are or even your name. You are not alone for long however, as a friendly, bobbing skull who calls himself Morte gets talking to you, telling you you've got some kind of journal written on your skin. "Hmm...mentions a guy called Pharod...maybe he can tell me something of myself..." And so your adventures as the Nameless One begins.
Preacher
I loved this game...in fact its my favourite game ever! Its the only cRPG to be set in the obscure but fascinating Planescape universe (or should I say Multiverse?), which gives the game a greater sense of scale - while you're not free to roam the planes willy-nilly, the effect of many different universes is created by some of the best story writing and deepest NPCs I've ever encountered. I really felt a connection to the PC, which I don't normally do in games, the description made it feel like you were really there. If you haven't played it yet, then don't be put off by the graphics which are, frankly, abysmal. If you really want to get lost in a game, then this is the one for you. I think I'm right in saying that it won awards for its storyline (can someone back me up on this?) but sadly it didn't get the sales figures it deserved. A true unrewarded classic in my opinion. Also it has Tony Jay voicing the main bad guy, which is just perfect because he is officially the most evil voice in gaming today. *Note to Mods: Sorry for the two separate posts, wanted to break the text down and make it easier to read. People are more likely to read two normal sized posts than one giant essay, IMO."
_Atti_
Yes that game is great..i played it on summer vacation..its like a great book..all the little details, all the little choices..i loved the npcs, the quests, the stories..the philosophical aproach..and that it was character-centered..not another 'big hero saves the world' type game.. GothmogII
Tony Jay? No way, Keith David as the voice of Vhailor is waaaaay better. Although as the Transcendant One Jay was pretty cool.... Funniest voice was definately Dan "Homer Simpson" Castellaneta doing Nordom.
Akashoronin
I played the german version of Planescape Torment, it's a great game.. I was tempted to buy the english version as well to enjoy the voice actors like Castellaneta.
