Commonwealth Expanded (WIP)

Of all the places in Fallout 3, none intrigued me more than the Commonwealth, despite the fact that the only information we have comes from a single related quest. I've always wanted to expand on this area of the game, but I never knew how. But a few weeks ago, something clicked. The series is heavily inspired by the anime Gunslinger Girl, where little girls are rescued by a government agency and turned into cyborg assassins. I personally believe that this would fit perfectly into the Commonwealth. I've already made a companion, Ashley, related to my larger project, of which this is the real start. It will feature several quests, some taking place in the Institute itself.

The first quest is completely dialogue free, and is more of a prelude to the coming quests, full of important backstory and exploration. And, of course, guns.

The second will involve the player investigating a new outpost in the Wasteland, and trying to find a way to get to the Commonwealth. This one will be more combat/stealth oriented, much like Operation Anchorage.

The third will involve the player finally reaching the Commonwealth and getting involved in the complex politics and struggles as well as genuinely morally ambiguous quests. Expect the unexpected, and make sure to remember information from the previous quests.

Somewhere down the road I will merge them all into one long quest. Keep checking this thread for updates, and tell me your opinion! :)

Bump and an update! So far I've made an incredibly long cave that leads to a sewer that I am currently working on. From what I've playtested, it's pretty easy to get lost, which could be attributed to the lack of lighting. I've made some pretty cool (in my biased opinion) areas, including a trapdoor that leads to a long fall into a completely flooded, irradiated tunnel, as well as a rigged shotgun that fires at a grenade bouqet in a gas filled chamber when a tripwire is er... tripped. Suffice to say, this will be a very hard mod. The aforementioned shotgun trap nearly killed me at level 20. If there was only a way to make those radiation traps from Broken Steel available without the DLC...

Anyways, tell me what you think, and offer advice if you want.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm about 50% done the interior structure, minus navmesh, clutter, lighting, and other things. I fixed a glitch with my computer where I couldn't use the PrintScreen key, so here are some pictures:

The cave:

The sewer:

Hopefully I'll get more done soon. Currently I'm working on the ground floor of the outpost, and just finished the basement and sub-basement. Please share your ideas or comments or what have you.
