Recommended Posts

i have a 4870 X2 card and am running fallout 3 maxed out with 4xaa 16xaf and got solid 60 fps never went bellow 60

but now for some reson the fps just drops to like 20-40 but if i quit the game then start it up again it runs at 60 again it tends to happen if i do somthing like example. 'go through doors that take me to new world spaces '

or in mother ship zeta going through the healing devices and somtimes it happens when i change from 1st person to 3rd person

it must be a mod thts cozing this but i heard others have same prob with my card but i have never had this prob when i first got the game.

To lazy to write anything read this one I wrote it last night

http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=142660

In particular you wana turn off Fallout 3's AA an AF

Then enter your grapics card user interface

and change the settings to force AA an AF

then pick whatever you want for AA an AF

(you can pick higher settings for AA an AF in that grapics card settings without the performance loss)

http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=142660

the tweek guide above is killer

the stuff at the end is freaking uber

things like setting how much RAM fallout can use

You could also have programs running in the background (spyware/malware)

You could need to update all your drivers

You could need to defrag your hard driver

You could have a corupted save game

it also happens when i wait i think because the lighting/shadows and stuff like tht change by waiting and same with fast travel anything tht changes details makes the game slowndown. i save the game where it is slowing down then restart game and get 60 fps again it is realy anoying because i keep having to restart the game

i have got windows vista ultmate 64bit i tryed the 3gb enabler mod by nmc with no sucses

i have no other programs running i have never had this prob before so it has nothing to do with aa af

i have moved all the stuff out my date folder coz it has texture mods in it so i moved evrything out mseh textures everything exsept the offichial folders that are needed to play fallout still no sucses

i will try to defrag my hard drive if tht works

thnx for ur help hope it works

anymore idears i could try????

:thanks:

ctrl alt delete

enter the task manager

look at the processes

then tell me with a straght face you don't have programs running in the background

Short of using a 3rd party software program in order to shut down the windows shell

and also each process of the windows shell which wouldn't be required in order to run a video game

just like they used to use DOS3.1 to launch video games outside of windows back in the 80's

only on computers today with XP an vista. Then yes, you have tons of background programs running.

Even more so with vista.

Yes, AA and AF is a performance issue, one of many issues that tax performance

slowing frame rates to a grinding halt.

I think however using that tweek for fallout 3 in particular an also maybe the new grand theif auto

it would help bring the game up to 30FPS, the standard of what the human eye can detect.

You don't have to listen to me though, My name is Pitt an I don't know S***

If it were me, i'd read an read stuff about running games with windows vista for one

64 bit is another monster you'll have to figure out on top of just plain old vista.

Concider this, I bought the very last copy of windows XP because "it's faster"

that's what they said in benchmarking anyway.

I have a heck of a time making fallout 3 work, so in your situation

You have that heck of a time, an then the added heck of a time for vista, and even another heck of a time from a 64 bit system.

I for one wouldn't use a performance mod like the 3Gb enabler mod you talked about.

Anything and everything you wana do in that form can be done with note pad and the tweek guide

besides we don't even enable much more than 2Gb because it becomes unstable, and also requries

other changes to the .ini file to work right, even then it's experimental at best.

60 FPS

Grow up

Movies are only 25 frames per second, so is TV I think

You're running on max settings, hacked up mods that change the .ini,

4X AA an 16X AF from Fallout 3's sucky AA an AF process,

You've got mods we don't know about, You've got DLC's,

You've got vista, 64 bit vista, and a post about how you can get 60 frames per second

despite the fact that you just created a post with the title Frames per second slow down

Hello! IS ANYBODY IN THERE?

seriously dude

turn off the crappy AA an AF settings in the fallout 3 launcher

then force them via the grapics card user interface

Concider that you could pick 8XQ AA which would work just as good if not better

performance wise as the 4X setting fallout is currently using, while at a quality level

of 8X, which you would probably have to set fallout to 16 X to get, this is just a tiny thing

a bunch of tiny things an then you're fallouting in style

Another thing is to follow the tweek guide, and I mean the whole GD thing

super boring to read an hard work to finish

http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_1.html

just about every setting you can turn down to halfway without even noticing it at all in the very least

Don't use mods that just tweek the fallout.ini file, learn what to put in the text file to do what you want

then you just got rid of a mod in the load order, because you can only load so many, HELLO

Look into the Cell purge mod, it worked for oblivion, they say why not fallout it should help

Update drivers, all of them, update direct X, update open GL

Make clean installs of mods, read the read me files

use a good patch set up like 1.5 masterupdate or 1.6 1.7 master updated with FO3edit

I think 1.6 an 1.7 it's optional, but then 1.6 an 1.7 are basicly 1.5, so why not master update it

there's no risk an it works freaking great

Never Auto save, don't use auto save mods, or disable auto save mods

Never quick save, hit esc create a new save each time, keep 20 saves around

keep back ups of those saves, your game can go corupt an you not crash

up to an hour later or more, which leaves you running around saving meanwhile

your game is crashing an you don't even know it yet, which just locked that corupt data

into your save or save tree for the last 4 saves or more.

Get current versions or matching versions to your patch for

FOMM, FOSE, GECK, FO3edit

there's a update for the GECK

Make a clean install on your system (format the drives, start over)

or

Make a clean install of Fallout 3 in it's own folder on the hard drive

or even better on a seperate harddrive with no page file on it

Edit the page file, edit the BIOS settings, Change your clock speed, change your core voltage for RAM an CPU

The stuff never freaking ends to what you can do in order to run a gamer computer.
