How do I activate modded animations?

Hello.

When I've been looking at pictures from many different mods I've noticed something. Many of the pictures shows the character posing in various ways. They can be posing with a gun in their hands or lying in a bed in a special way (could be a NPC?) and I wonder how you can make your character, or any Npc, to do those different poses and animations?

if it's done in the game off course.

You can also add custom animations to the list of Loose animations in the GECK, add those animations to Idle Markers, and have NPCs perform the animations autonomously with Sandbox or Patrol AI packages.

Go into geck and look at existing idle markers, it will become pretty apparent.

I'd also recommend taking a look at The Groovatron:

It includes the latest 'Some Poses' along with Umpa's dances and many more. In my opinion it's absolutely essential if you want to pose chars for screenies. You can combine facial expressions with poses for some amazing shots.
