Can't start game/load 1 after activating any mod.

So, no matter what mod I activate (aside from the official plugins/DLC files) when I get into Oblivion and try to start a game/load the 1 I already started, nothing happens. The box with the option "Do you really want to star ta new game" just goes away. I can, however, start a new game/load an existign one if I turn off all my mods in OBMM or the simple data thing on the oblivion launcher. Idk how this could be related to the load order, because I can choose only a single mod (midas magic for instance) in addition to the official plugins/dlc, and it wont work.

But then again, I don't know much so any way to resolve this (no, I don't want to delete my data folder.... That would create more hours of work! I will only do this if it's my last possible resolution.) would be greatly appreciated.

You do not have to delete your data folder to troubleshoot, just rename it - to something like oldata. Then it becomes (mostly) invisible to Oblivion. Now create a new data folder. then COPY - do not move the files actually needed to run Oblivion

Contents of a clean install \data folder

Music (folder)

Shaders (folder)

Video (folder)

Credits (text)

Oblivion - Meshes.bsa

Oblivion - Misc.bsa

Oblivion - Sounds.bsa

Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa

Oblivion - Voices1.bsa

Oblivion - voices2.bsa

Oblivion.esm

That gives you a Vanilla set up. Now make sure you have the latest patch installed and TEST it to make sure it works. Be sure to have both OBSE and OBMM running also (they are not in the data folder so you don't have t copy them over.)

Instead of copying the esp files from oldata, reinstall the mods ONE at a time, and test each one to be sure it works properly before installing the next. The first mod that needs a mesh or texture file will automatically create those folders when installed.

The reason for reinstalling is mods place parts of themselves in the meshes and textures folders and if you just copy the esp they will not be present causing problems. And if you copy over the textures and meshes folders, you get every texture and mesh you had in the old setup. So if one of them is the problem you will still have it.

If you use OBMM to make your mods into OMODs, they are easy to completely remove as you do not have to track down all of the texture and mesh files to remove them.

ok so i had this problem too. its rlly easy to fix. This problem is mostly caused if you put certain files from the mod u activated into an important oblivion file that the mod files dont belong in. example : you a mods "meshes" folder into an oblivion readme text. another cause is probably u put the mods info into another mods info and not into the correct oblivion files, this is what happened to me and it will take forever to get them out! hope this helps! also to what bben46 said NEVER, EVER DELETE OR RENAME YOUR DATA FOLDER SO THE GAME WILL NOT NOT RECOGNIZE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do this your game will never work again, at least in my experience it didnt.
